Larian Studios Forums Baldur's Gate III Baldur's Gate III - Technical & Gameplay Problems Can't Load Most Saves since Hotfix 3

Was not having any issues prior to Hotfix 3. Since then, most of the save files I make - despite the game reporting "Save Successful" when I make them - crash to desktop on trying to load. They get to 80%, then crash. No error info, just CTD. I can usually step back through my saves and find one that works, but I keep losing hours of progress. Also, it's not consistent - for example, I am unable to load a save today that I was able to load yesterday. Some of the troubleshooting I've tried in attempts to load "bad" saves:

• DX11 vs Vulcan
• Cross-Save disabled vs enabled
• Ultra graphics vs Low
• V-Sync On vs Off
• Steam cloud sync enabled vs disabled
• Full uninstall followed by removal of Larian Studios folder in AppData (I saved my savegames though)
• Running executable as standalone without Steam running
• Not using any mods, never have

I've even tried on my Steam Deck, and the same save files that crash on my PC will also crash on the Steam Deck.

Nothing I try has resulted in a "bad" save loading successfully. I've had zero issue trying to load any saves from pre-Hotfix 3, so I'm fairly confident that something in that hotfix is corrupting saves, but I cannot find a workaround. Please tell me there are others out there with this problem. I can only find a handful of reports, but this is a complete game-breaking issue for those of us that have it.

I'm not sure it will matter, but have you tried toggling Vsync? I heard that can make a difference on loading some saves

Just tried that as well actually, no change. Also discovered I now can't load a save that I was able to load yesterday. And I loaded that particular save multiple times yesterday. Today, crash every time. It makes no sense. And to be clear, I had ZERO issues prior to Hotfix 3.

I actually posted this issue earlier, not sure if it had any responses since I can't see it anymore. I just sucked it up and went to an earlier save that did work. I had to replay hours of lost gameplay... I haven't heard of any fixes for this issue yet.

Edit: I think this was a bug that was actually first talked about in the Beta and still hasn't been fixed. I don't see many people talking about this issue, but it's happened to me 3 times now. I'm actually trying to deal with it right now as we speak. I'm just going down the list of game files to see which one to load and as I try it's getting more dire. This one might set me back like 10 hours.

Where were you able to find mention of this being a bug going back to the Beta? Are there other threads?

As of right now not a single one of my saves post Hotfix 3 will load. However, I don't have any issue loading saves from Hotfix 2.1 or earlier (roughly 10 hours of playtime ago).

I completely uninstalled the game and deleted the Larian folder in AppData. After reinstalling and letting Steam Cloud add my saves back, I was able to load my most recent save and play for about 3 hours. At that point, the game crashed randomly and after restarting I was no longer able to load saves again.
