Why is it possible to accidentally drag basic actions that never change off the UI? Shove, Hide, Attack, Throw etc. Why aren't these buttons fixed?

Why are the weapon slots only usable for 1 melee and 1 bow? The latter isn't even usable for throwing weapons, why? On a Strength based warrior, I want to be able to put a stack of Javelins in a quickslot instead of having to use Throw opening up my entire inventory of books, keys and wares. At least you can filter it down to weapons. But 95% of the time I'm using the same throwing weapons so why not a slot for them? QoL: the throwing weapons that have been placed in an equipment slot could also be automatically picked up in a 5m radius so retrieving them after combat would be faster.

On some characters, perhaps I want to equip two melee weapons for a fast switch instead of a bow. A two handed damage + defensive shield option, or slashing and blunt damage options. Why can't I put a Maul in the second slot? What if I'm some archer specialist extravaganza, I could want two different bows with different properties for quick access.

SPELLS. Jeez this is a big one. So frustrating. Why do spells keep changing places??? On a Wizard I'm constantly searching for my spells which is like a blaring alarm for a bad UI. I tried arranging them by level on the four rows that are given and locking the bar. But it doesn't work on a prepared caster with a big spell selection that changes. Every time you change your spell selection the removed spells vanish and the added spells pop up in random places. Dragging them all manually to a desired slot every single time is possible but way too much work. Why can't we quite simply have a spell UI you can open and close, that automatically arranges all prepared spells by level? The only way to keep spells reasonably in place would be to put every single known spell on the hotbar. But Wizards and Clerics know way too many spells for that. And spells from items get mixed up with spellcasting from slots when they are just identical icons where ever.

Why do I see some random part of my inventory on the far right section of the hotbar? There's some books and some jewelry there? Always minimized, why is it there?

And when exploring, I don't want to constantly look at 50 colorful icons on the bottom of the screen. Minimizing your 17+ spell icons would help.

There is something good about the UI, too. Being able to sort all available Actions or Bonus Actions is nice. Generally the sorting options for just one click are good. But the main view is the messiest and most dysfunctional aspect of it all, when it should be clear, rock solid and minimalistic.

Free the weapon slots for any kind of melee or ranged, and create an organized spell interface for casters and it'll be good enough.

I like this feature. I almost never use dip, disengage, or hide and don't want them on my hotbar. What I don't like is that I was unable to add them back to the hotbar during combat because "you can't prepare spells during combat." What???

Yeah, it is, but I more or less gave up on "fighting for improvements" because there was clearly no intent to listen to anyone who said it was bad from the start.

I always thought that "auto-filling bars" are an awful design principle for this type of game, but somehow the feature had its defenders even during EA.

Now take something like Solasta, on the other hand: I don't like the AESTHETIC of that UI a single bit (they borrow this terrible legacy from Amplitude of having the Ui that looks like a professional toolset glued on top of the game rather than something pseudo-diegetic in it) , but in terms of usability you can tell after a couple of hours of playing that:

- it requires less buttons, submenus and less clicks to reach everything quickly. Not to mention the ability to set custom shortcut as keybindings.
- everything has a SET place in the UI and can be found reliably and consistently; things don't move around randomly, don't disappear from the UI "just because" etc.
- It uses GIANT BUTTONS for the most common actions and somehow it STILL manages to take less "screen real estate" compared to the Larian version.
- It supports click and drag for multiple character selection. Do I really need to add more?

Party control in Baldur's Gate 3 is a complete mess that begs to be addressed. SAY NO TO THE TOILET CHAIN
