Larian Studios Forums Baldur's Gate III Baldur's Gate III - General Save Game Location

I would like to strongly protest the location Larian chose for save games. It is:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames\Story

This is on the boot drive, with no way to change it, in a location hidden to most users.

This will fill the boot drive with files that are not readily visible to the user. Trust me - you don't want the boot drive to run out of space.

Every other Larian game I know of uses Documents for save games.
This directory can be relocated to any drive, and any drive is more suitable than the boot drive.

Best solution at this point would be to give us a way to specify Baldur's Gate 3 Save Game location through Settings.

I agree that even by Larian's standards this is a really stupid place to put saves or anything really. Why games have to put files in two or three different locations is beyond me.

Not ideal but you can zip up the saves or manually move them to a different different drive.

I have just under 900MB of saves - at the default 25 quick- and auto- saves. I'm still in Act 1 so I'm wondering if the file size grows the further into the game you get.

This is also the locations for mods. Luckily the mods I'm currently running are small beer, mostly in the KBs.

Yes the save games add up and that's especially true for people clicking F5 because quick saves and auto saves don't like the cross save system... To be fair it was designed for something else and Larian didn't do a great job of testing or communicating when they changed it
