WinXP, 2.66gigCPU, 512RAM, radeon 9500 Pro/9700 (latest driver), 1.45 patch. Today, I loaded my last saved game (from 8 saved yesterday). After loading, video went bonkers. I shut down normally, seeing the partially blocked menu through the quivering mess. Desk top screen also bonkers. Shut down computer (all the way off). Restarted CPU, XP & game. Eight of 16 saved games in the load window now have new .tmp extentins: for example, "Quicksave1(2).tmp". ".tmp" games start to load, then kick me out of the game back to the desktop. Video OK during this. Earlier saved games (9 thru 17 - without the new .tmp extension) work fine but that's 5 game play hours, 2 lvl 3 dungeon quests completed and lotsa good stuff lost! (DK luck 7, Hero 48) Tried all kinds of corrective stuff (drivers, set up, reconfig). No joy. Crikey, is there any way to recover these files?

Check how many files are in the saved game folders (in '..\Beyond Divinity\savegames') of the saves with a .tmp extension compared to those which work (should be 22, 23, 29 or 30 based on a few saves I have handy). The .tmp extension implies the saves did not complete properly. Depending on which files are missing, it may or may not be possible to replace the missing files with corresponding files from the next most recent save.

There are 8 "normal" saved game folders with specific names and 8 saved game folders with the exact SAME names but which have a .tmp extension also, for ex., "quicksave.5" and "quicksave5.tmp". The tmp folders have 29 files in them and the "normal" game folders have only one file, "inv.b0" of ~40kb. When I try to load any of these, the game kicks me out to the desktop.
There are also 7 other "normal" saved game folders that can be loaded, played and they have no .tmp folder of the same name. These folders have 30 files in them, the extra being, "inv.b0".
Hmm. could I copy the 29 files in the .tmp folder to the "normal" folder and...? I'd better wait for your reply so I don't make things worse! TIA.

Yes, you should just be able to copy/move the files from the .tmp save to the corresponding normal save folder. It sounds like the game finished saving the actual files, but had a problem moving them to the new folders.
BTW, the game saves to a temporary folder first, so that if you are overwriting an existing working save, it will not be ruined if there is a problem during the save process.

Whether copying the one file in the save folder to the .tmp folder or the 29 files in .tmp to the saved folder, ALL saved games with .tmp duplicates were corrupted. Some lost major equipment, some had my Hero's weapons in the DK's equipage, The DK's armor showed a red panel and gave stats and he had a composit bow instead of his X-bow, etc.
One saved game that appeared "normal" kicked me out to the desktop when I tried to activate my doll. Sigh, guess I'll have to go back to the last game that didn't have a .temp file and start over from there. All that Orange equipment and other goodies, gone forever! Drears.
Because of bugs/glitches, this is the 4th or 5th time I've had to start BD far back at an earlier saved game or (once) start all the way over. This is the buggiest game I've ever played. Thanks for your help but, one more FU and I'm outta here. Too bad. I have fun when it works.

I want to let you know that I updated my BIOS (it's been 14 months since I got this computer, new) and all of my video problems with the game have gone away! Still have some minor problems with my desktop screen but I think there's a screw loose. Yeah, I know, "especially the one on the keyboard!"
I think the outdated BIOS may have caused part of my .tmp corrupt files problem. Found out by using the Windows troubleshooting guide and talking to my computer dealer (builder. If anyone else has video frequently going bonkers during game play, they might investigate BIOS update as a possible solution.
Hope this is useful for others. Best wishes SerAris
