I always see Evil as the path of least resistance. The path of easy and least conflict, Its hard to be good but its easy to be greedy or lazy.
Its not just killing for killing's sake unless you have a... Dark Urge.
This brings me to illithid powers, Minthara and Karlach.
Firstly for Karlach I just want say it was kind of misleading to show us her FINAL romance scene as part of the preview from Panel from Hell. I love you guys but come on that was pretty misleading.
That wasn't just "a" date. That was "THE" date. And since she is a good character the easy thing is to let her sacrifice herself but the hard thing is to save the Gondians, get the infernal irons or maybe even giving us a deal with a devil himself to find a solution to that.
I don't mind bittersweet endings or sad endings but don't give us all the tools to find a realistic solution to our problem and then tell us no you can't use it because I said so.
And this brings me to the path of evil.
Illithid powers and Minthara. I play the game until act 2 without using a single Illithid tadpole, while fellow players were adding tentacles to their brains and getting unholy powers I stuck it out without them because Swen told us in one his interviews there will be consequences. What were they? I took the path of good, I said no to dark powers despite the game constantly telling me to us it. I thought maybe taking the hard way would allow me to avoid a justified consequence in the end.
But turns out there is very little to no consequence at all. Why not?
In fact the only incentive I have to being good is that contentwise it is the most logical things to do, if I want Minthara in my group I would need to kill the tieflings, piss off Origin characters, cutout hours of very great content for a character that barely has 5 lines. I don't understand how the lead writer is the person that wrote for this character but there is barely anything there.
Some report its bug but is it? Such a wide ranging bug? And even if it was does Minthara have enough lines and content to make up for Wyll, Karlach, All the tieflings and etc and etc? I don't really think so.
I think for Minthara a more compelling story would have been to negotiate with her safe passage for the tieflings in exchange for your help in killing the druids and giving her what she wants.
To me thats true evil. That's evil that makes sense. Not senseless slaughter... of course give that option to players who want it but don't make us choose between kill EVERYONE or kill a million goblins.
Here is my proposal for Larian.
I really think you guys dropped the ball on couple of stuff.
Firstly please add a solution to Karlach issue.
Secondly please give us a way to recruit Minthara without sacrificing so much content for so little. That is surely easier than giving Minthara tons of stuff to make up for the loss.
Thirdly rework the ending that better represents the hard path for a better ending. Make it almost unreasonably hard, I don't mind but reward us for taking the long path instead of the shorter path.
Finally give us a prologue, we were told there were thousands of variations and I thought for sure this was the combination epilogue story slides when the story finished.
I don't understand how this feature was in DOS2 but not in BG3?
Clearly something went wrong in Act3. Thats fine. Things happen. But I humbly ask you to rally back the team one last time to add the depth necessary in Act 3 to make it stand shoulder to shoulder with Act 1 and 2.
Thank you for you time and the time of all the fellow posters that took time to read this.
