I think that would solve the problem of people feeling like they're being thrown into a romance with a character.

Not being an asshat leads to romance option, no?

In spite of what Larian claimed, there doesn't seem to be a non-romance relationship path. You are either disliked or companions try to engage with romance everyonce in a while. Some of them at least. In my playthrough Karlach made no such move - I assume she is one of the few characters who won't try to romance you if you initiated romance with someone else? The downside is, that she doesn't seem to have much content beside "upgrade the engine" thing (deep into act2 now - I assume she will get a more significant location in act3). I am not sure if she ever told me about the engine properly.

Eh too bad. Just another RPG, where companion interactions end up being mostly reduced to a bad dating sim.

Yeah that's my biggest criticism of the companions as well. Some of my favorites from Mass Effect and Dragon Age were not those I romanced, but those I befriended.
Garrus and Mordin, for example.
Ironically, the 'romance' I am enjoying the most in BG3 has been the one with
the goddamn emperor lmao
because we actually get to slowly figure out who he is/was. I legit know more things and I have a much clearer idea or what to expect from him than I do for Gale.

I think that adding a tiny heart icon to mark romantic interactions wouldn't hurt one bit.

Oddly enough, what bothers me the most is that it throws off the statistics for Larian. They released data saying that Gale was the second most romanced character in the game, after Shadowheart.

Clearly, that's not true. People were forced into a romance with Gale. You can't learn real lessons about what players want when you have fundamentally bad data.

Not to mention, it ruined some of the characters for me.

We already have a thread talking about issues with romance reactivity at https://forums.larian.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=883174.

I suggest we keep the discussion in one place, so I’ll lock this thread.
