Little lore rant.
So, gale multiple times mentioning that Ao punishing gods for interfering in mortal's affairs. But that's exactly the opposite!
Time of Troubles tells us that Ao was very dissatisfied, learning that gods got lazy, and not engaging in mortals' fate. And as a punishment he sent all got to Toril. So they had to live among mortals for a while. And yes, main reason for that was
fact of Bane Myrkul and Bhaal stole Tablets of Fate, and Ao needed those major artefact to be retrieved
. But prologue still clearly stating that Ao WANTS gods to be engaged in mortal lives and fate.
So when Gale multiple times saying that Ao would punish Mystra for directly interfering... that's just not true.
Entire cosmology of Forgotten Realms based on very strong ties in between gods and material plane. Ties through strong faith of mortal to the gods, and gods' active interfering into mortals' affairs.
Greyhawk is quite similar overall, but Io there doesn't state dead requirement for gods to engage in mortal affairs.
Eberron on the other hand have very lose cosmology, where gods not required at all to interact with material plane, and religion sometimes doesn't even have gods.
Ravenloft unique on it's own starting from fact that it is a deep ethereal plane. And in practicality there is a singular (sinister) main Force, that plays everyone's fate.
And Dark Sun simply cut off from both astral plane and outer planes. Making impossible for any gods to reach it. Although Elemental Lords there sometimes treated as gods.
But all and all, FR still stands out specifically in part where gods REQUIRED to interfere in mortals' affairs.
