NOTE: Sorry! I posted this in the "general" forum by mistake. I just realized there's a "Suggestions" forum, oops.
Just finished my 1st game of Beyond Divinity! I really enjoyed playing it, and felt its one of those special games that really held my attention, and has some great features that keep the frustration level low.
Here's my comments on what I liked and disliked about BD-1 for the developement team.
Loved - I love being able to quickly/easily access the battleground shops. I've lost attention in some other games, because I had to journey far and wide to find shops to sell loot. BD-1 battleground shops idea = A+
Loved - I loved how the developers mixed-in a lot of quests and storyline into what basically is a long dungeon crawl. I especially liked Act II (Imp City), as it offered multiple connected regions to explore, and all of them contained storyline & quests. BD-1 Quests & Storyline = A+
Loved - I loved the wide assortment of skills that could be trained, and felt it offers the player a huge range of ways to play the game. If the game wasn't so long (its pretty huge & time consuming), I could see myself playing through this game multiple times with different types of characters ... and having a blast just exploring all the various skills. But I didn't like the method of selling-back skills (see below).
Liked - Graphics, sound and interface were all very acceptable for me. I have no complaints about them (expect for the inventory system, see below). While the graphics and sound (and voices) might not be considered "top notch" by some, I truely give much greater importance on a game's quests, storyline and interface. BD-1 has all 3 of those covered very well. My only suggestion for BD-2 might be to improve some of the voices, and definitely rework the inventory system.
Disliked - I didn't like the inventory system. I felt it was to hard to organize stuff I wanted to sell. I would recommend, when at a shop, that only the character currently tagged as "leader" would be shopping ... and only his/her (okay, lol, digial bits = it's) inventory would be accessed during shopping. Reason/Logic: I like having 1 character be a mule for "junk", and wished only it's inventory would be displayed while shopping. I found it VERY confusing having to deal with all my character's inventory being combined into one large mass while shopping.
Disliked - Inventory system again. Suggestion - while at a shop, when the "ID" or "Repair" options are selected, PLEASE, only display the items that need to be ID'ed or Repaired! This game has a huge amount of inventory that can be held by the characters (5 total I think?) ... with the currently inventory/shopping system, it gets pretty crazy trying to locate items that need to be ID'ed or Repaired.
Disliked - I felt the skill sell-back costs were extremely to high, and for me it made it hard for me to explore the various skills .... because the costs were so high, I just stuck with the basic skills and played it safe. I regret doing that now .... and I don't feel I have time to replay the whole game. Thus I would hope a new system in BD-2 would ENCOURGE players to try out new and different skill point "strategies". In BD-1 I didn't ... it was to expensive to sellback skills.
Overall - I enjoyed playing the game a lot. I don't think I could summ up my praise to the developers any better, than to say ... I was freaking glued to my monitor for a week straight playing Beyond Divinity! Thank you for a great game.
