Without going into too much detail, can I prevent Shadowheart from killing the Nightsong and continue her romance? I really want Jaheira in my party

On a good playthrough, yes. I saved the grove, released the prisoners etc and etc and despite failing the persuasion check SH spared the nightsong.

I kept quiet and let her make her own decision, but I think the outcome depends on what’s happened before.

Have a very good relationship with her, and then ignore all the crazy shit she says in the shar temple and trust her to do the right thing. If you try to force her, be ready for a nasty skill check.

Not if you keep quiet...I'm not 100% sure but if you don't intervene I think there is only one possible outcome...the one that involves stabbing. And yeah you can continue the romance. But if you intervene and fail the persuasion that may end your romance right there, also not 100% sure but at least that's what the narrator seems to imply. If you don't intervene and just let her have some happy stabbing time then you can also continue the relationship.

I failed the check but the romance continued. I didn't even get a Shadowheart disapproves notification. Albeit one can detect a soupçon of disapproval in the words: "if I need to step over your corpse to do this so be it"

Afterwords I said "I think it's wrong but I can't lose you" and the romance continued.

The part where you say you can't lose her comes before the roll. You ask her not to do it, she'll say she'll do it over your dead body if she has to, then you back down, and then Nightsong mentions the wolf which gives Shadowheart enough of a pause so Nightsong can give a speech and THEN you have your chance to persuade Shadowheart.

Well, she did something else when I tried. I have no idea what the requirements are for that, but it is possible (unless it bugged for me).

You can continue to have a relationship with Shadowheart if your approval is high enough, regardless of what happens to the Nightsong.

Of course, if the Nightsong dies then it's going to be under different terms because she's still a hardcore follower of Shar.

For the record, letting Shadowheart decide in my run made her spare the Nightsong. Thus I believe it's mainly based on your approval.

Perfect, thanks so much for your answers! One last question, does the Nightsong quest lock me out of anything else I need to do in Act 2?
