in the tunnels below the main entrance chambers & testing chambers of the academy, there is a white egg shaped gem guarded by a dragon statue. this is blocked by a locked gate that can only be opened with "orange gems eyes" according to the note. i found the yellow and red gems, and placed them both in the statue, making "orange" and the gate opened and i was able to get the large egg shaped gem.

travelling through the halls later, i encounter a Raanar thief caste ghost who wants the gem. i saved and tried this both ways, just for kicks.

1) gave him the gem, and he told me the secret way into the thief's hideout, which i had already figured out before. down there i discovered i could explore very little as the gates were locked, but i was able to kill the monster down the well. i didn't notice any experience reward for this.

2) refused to give him the gem, and killed him when he attacked me. i received experience for ending his torment as a ghost, and kept the gem. since i killed him he never revealed the secret entrance, not that this mattered.

my question is: does it matter which way i go here? is it necessary to give the gem up for later? i ask because i rather enjoyed the experience reward and the gem looks cool for "keeps" as it were.

No impact at all on the overall plotline as far as I know so you can do whichever you prefer.

Reality is for those who cannot cope with fantasy. Fortunately, I can cope quite well.

perfect. time to keep the gem and add it to the "neat stuff i collected" upon reaching the battlefields, just for giggles n grins.
thanks
