YOu can go to Moonrise Tower to free the tieflings and gnomes (if they are still alive in your playthrough) and have a scene with Ketehric Thorm. Nothing bad will happen, if you leave after that. I did that and then did some side content.
I heard from a friend, that if you finish the Gauntlet of Shar before freeing the tieflings and gnomes, they will be dead.
