Hi everyone,

I'm playing a co-op game with three of my friends, and after a specific event in act two
(the fight against Balthazar and the dialogue with Nightsong)
Shadowheart decides to leave the party, with no chance of being able to stop her. The only solution we found is to kill her during the farewell dialogue (this will make her stay in the camp, endlessly repeating the same line of dialogue), but we only discovered later, at the end of act two, that as a solution unfortunately it is not valid. This is because, always at the end of act two,
Nightsong specifically asks to speak with her to continue, but even being both in the camp we found ourselves unable to progress
. We can't even sleep or go out, so we're literally stuck in a bug. The only solution seems to be to reload the save before the fight against
Balthazar
, and accept that Shadowheart leaves with no possibility of stopping her. But this would ruin our run, since until now we have always done everything possible to interact in the best way with the various Origins, continuing the related quests.

Has all this already happened to others? Are there known ways to prevent Shadowheart from leaving the party after that specific event, playing in a four-player campaign (and therefore without the ability to make an Origin join at will to continue the related quest)?

The issue seems to be that since you have 4 custom characters, you can't bring Shadowheart along in the party for the important story moment.

The only way I see around that is using a mod to increase party size, so you can bring a fifth party member and Shadowheart can be present. Make sure whoever does the dialogue is the one that has Shadowheart with them, to make sure it registers her as being in the scene.

Yes, we know of the existence of this mod, but we hoped to be able to solve the problem legitimately, without having to resort to "external methods", since until now it has been possible to continue all the Origin quests without issues (except Karlach's one, which does not continue from the Dammon step). Our hope is that patch #1 will fix the problem, but in the meantime (since we stopped our run) we thought we'd ask here, in case someone else ran into the same issue.

Update after patch #1:

Nothing has changed: Shadowheart continues to leave the group after
freeing Nightsong (who cannot be killed, as the spear can only be used by Shar's chosen one)
. It is quite sad that choosing to play with three other friends implies having to accept that an npc companion, at some point, leaves the group without the possibility of avoiding it.

I hope that our (bad) experience can help future players to choose whether or not to play in a full group of four.
