Ok, i hope i can get this solved..i bought BD yesterday..and was sooo excited! It's been playing smooth till i got to this one part and it's really frustrating! Ok, heres my problem...I just killed Samuel's main guards in Act I, you know the one's you need to kill after Samuel is summoned and he sends them after you..well..after digging in the two treasure chambers for a while i got a couple keys..i went to this door that was locked before and it opened fine...there was a staircase there...now here is the prob...i can't do it! I can't go up the staircase. Everytime I try it sends me back to my computer's mainframe with no trick to get me back fast! Now i don't know if it's a movie introducing you to Act II or what but it won't let me go another step into the game...could anybody PLEASE help me!?

Highlight the spoiler and drag down for your answer. Good Luck.

Spoiler : After killing the 4 guards gather all that they dropped, make sure you get the 2 keys. Move North then East into a room; take the loot, a Sapphire Key, and the 3rd Battlefield key. Now move West to another room and get the loot and the key to Samuel’s prison (you will not use that key, but will exit another way). Now go south and exit Samuel’s Chamber. Go west in the corridor until you come to a locked door on your right. Open the door and inside are the stairs to Act II – Do Not use the stairs. Go back to the corridor and continue West, then North. Look on your large map; you want to go to the very Northeast point of the map, not far from the armory. There is a door here, and if you open it you will just see total darkness inside. This will be the end of Act I.

Enter the door that shows only a black area. You see a cut scene of a Weapons Smith in his Forge. You will blow up the forge now and end Act I and go right to Act II.

First drag the barrel of salt you have over the barrel of Coal that you have
They combine and now you drag the Sulfur that you have over the barrel. They combine into an explosive. Now enter the forge, you already have the key from Samuel’s chamber. Kill the Weapons Smith and go to the center of the North wall. Pass your curser over the area to find “forge lava”. Take the explosive out of your inventory and drop it on the “forge lava. Congratulations, you have completed Act I, and will appear in Act II.

I already went over and killed the smith as soon as I got the keys, does that make any difference? lol..loved the highlighting thing..never seen that before. Well..ok..i'll do as you say and post back to tell you if it works..thanx bunches Grim!!

The other stairs will take you to Act II also, but you lose some exp by going that way.

ahh..well hope it works..hope me killing the smith doesn't effect wether i can do it or not though..er...lol...first time killing may have been a BAD thing in this game! Stupid question....WHY do you lose experience by going the stair route...i was going to say..hm..that seems odd.. but one thing i definately learned from DD was that when ever your game started doing what it's doing now..just lower the resolution and everything should be fine..but DANG i start FREAKING when stuff like this happens! lol wait..i just realized..if killing the smith is part of it..then it shouldn't matter if i already killed him..i just went ahead of myself..but it shouldn't make a big deal..got it

It should not make any difference... just blowing the place up will give you some additional exp, and he has to be dead anyways.

The coal is in the room where you killed Fergus the torture master at the start of the game.

You do not loose experience points taking the stairs, you just do not get any. Blowing the place up involves more work, and is not obvious without seeing it in the forum, so gives experience points.

Did you install the latest patch? In earlier versions there was a problem, predominantly under Windows 98, which required the resolution be switched to 640x480 to get by the video during the act change.

lol..i kinda cheated by reading other forums..but you need 1)salt:in the kitchen 2)Coal: where you fought Fergus 3)Sulphur: w/ that gay medical guy..lol it's in a little tray thingy on a table or something

First mix the salt and coal barrels together...then add the sulpher to that mixture and voila! Instant kick-a$$ citadel explosian!
