Okay yes this a video game - but Baldur's Gate 1, 2 had the spells right.. So Larian tied the spells or at least most of them to movement rather than code them properly.
5e - Misty Step
Briefly surrounded by silvery mist, you teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space that you can see. So rough terrain affects the teleport.. How does this happen?
Teleport / Dimension Door is when you basically instantly travel from point A to B, The terrain underneath or teleporting through should have nothing to do with how far you can travel, that's the spell distance limit. So Below is a picture worth a thousand words, rough terrain is affecting Dimension Door of how far I can travel.
