Spoilers! Spoilers! Spoilers! Obviously.
I'm in the middle of a Dark Urge playthrough, trying to resist the evil within. I was a good boy and resisted the call to turn a certain sweet cleric inside out. Feeling pleased with myself and in control of my destiny, I went to sleep at the end of Act 2.
Well I should have known there would be punishment, and now the monster within decided to take the person I loved most- which was Karlach in my case. "Never" I said, no matter how delicious murder sounds when narrated by Amelia Tyler! Well, my failed Wisdom save had other plans, and I watched in horror as my character murdered his beloved.
Shadowheart was the first to discover my villainy, and with a rousing speech of condemnation she led the others, torches-and-pitchforks style, to purge the evil from their camp. Burning with holy conviction, she cast banishment on me while the others gathered round, and I was promptly eviscerated when she brought me back. Well played Shadowheart, I salute you for seeing justice done for poor Karlach!
A quick reload later, I manage to pass the wisdom save and warn Karlach before it was too late. Her reaction is just amazing- she just takes charge like "I spent 10 years in hell, this is nothing!" I love the way her lines are written for this bit, and I really want to do more playthroughs with other characters to see how they react.
Now, having narrowly avoided murdering my beloved (and wishing I had a better Wisdom save), I am terrified and thrilled to see how things will go in Act 3!
I love this game, and Dark Urge really is a whole new level intensity. To the writers who worked on Dark Urge: you are cabal of vicious Bhaal-worshipping fiends!
