And that's a prime example why we need granular difficulty options like the Pathfinder games use. At the very least players should be able to adjust:
- HP buff
- Proficiency mod
- Enemy HP buff
- Enemy AC buff
- Enemy damage modifier
That way we could tailor our gameplay a lot more than we can with just three difficulty modes.
I agree. With the Pathfinder games, I tended to put all the sliders up to max, but then felt like I needed to buff my characters with some cheat codes to enjoy it. With BG3, I find the difficulty is just about right on Tactician without cheats, which means it is probably too easy because I'm pretty sure there are a lot of gamers who prefer a greater challenge than I do. There needs to be some way to make the game harder for those folks.
On the other end of the spectrum, I thought the original Story Mode should have been called Boring Mode. However, if Larian just provided a few more sliders, everyone could dial in exactly what they want. The one slider I would most definitely want to see is a Point Buy slider. sijjvravisz would probably be fine on Balanced Mode with a 36 Point Buy. Indeed, I think Larian could get rid of Story Mode entirely if they just let you choose your attributes. And players who want to see what Tactician provides but just think it is too hard could up their Point Buy and enjoy the experience when their characters were sufficiently buff. (And players who think Tactician is too easy could go with a 15 Point Buy.)
