I’ve just started playing a Light Domain cleric and Warding Flare is one of the reactions that I get at first level. As far as I can tell, it never works though.

Before patch 1, the game would pop up a dialog box asking me if I want to use Warding Flare because the enemy has rolled a number greater than or equal to my AC. Even if click to use the reaction, I would get hit 100% of the time and the combat log doesn’t show any second roll that the enemy should do because of the advantage imposed by Warding Flare.

After patch 1, I no longer see any Warding Flare dialog boxes anymore. I simply avoid or receive damage as if the reaction were not present.

I read a possible problem with Warding Flare when Karmic Dice is turned on, but Karmic Dice is already off in my game. Does anyone else experience this problem?

UPDATE

This issue might have been resolved now as I've seen Warding Flare trigger once that resulted in my character not getting hit. I did try to start a new game with the same kind of character and confirmed that Warding Flare was triggered. Then I went back to my original save and was able to observe that the reaction now triggers as well, after ensuring that I did a long rest before the battle. At this point, I just need to check how often the reaction actually triggers, whether it's per turn, per short rest, or per long rest.

Only problem I've experienced with warding flare is that it turned a hit into a critical hit despite the fact that my Shadowheart is carrying an adamantine shield.

At first I also thought it dident do anything. But renember it imposes disadvantage. And the 2nd die can roll the same result or get sn even higher resukt then the first die did!

Its even abit more generous then the pnp warding flare as it only triggers on a hit and only of we want to take the reaction. At the table youchave to defide before the die is rolled at all...
