What happens later depending on how you resolve the encounter?

I've seen many posts on how to win the fight but can't really find anything on whether or not you should fight.

Is there a benefit to a more peaceful resolution? Or should I just kill and collect XP?

Probably just kill for exp.

You just pass the checks and then nothing, basically just avoiding to fight.

Also the loot can be sweet too, gith sword and short sword are pretty nice early on.
