Hi new here so if the format is weird and I've posted something wrong sorry but I've posted elsewhere with this Idea and I thought I should bring it here as the Devs are super responsive about changes to the game. (Spoilers Ahead)

So as you reach into Act 3 you have a choice of either siding with the Emperor or freeing Orpheus, the former eats the captives brain to gain his ability to block the Elder brains influence as you need an Illithid to stop the Grand Design from continuing or you free Orpheus and either himself or you become an Illithid as one is needed to again end things to save Faerun.

So my question / request is why can't we attempt to form an alliance/truce between the Emperor and Orpheus as we need both an Illithid and Orpheus's ability?

If we chose to side with the Epmeror he eats Orpheus's brain to gain his power to block out the Elder brains influence on both themself and on the hero's but in doing so we doom the Gith people to forever be slaves to Vlaakith, and causing Lea'zel to forever be hunted down but Vlaakith's followers (And maybe breaking up with you).

If we save Orpheus he berates us for killing his honor guard but agrees to put it to one side as we need to stop the elder brain and we need a Illithid to stop it, so either we becomes one forever changed and unable to continue with our lives before hated by all and only Orphues calling us heros by saying we are "Rouge Illithid", Or he does potentially also dooming his people to forever be under Vlaakith.

I feel that we should be allowed (If we meet a certain pre-requisite) to callout both the Empeor and Orpheus by saying we all are needed to end the Grand Design as we both need Orpheus's protection and The Emperor's Illithid power to save the Faerun, I see no reason why we should notr be able to attempt this as both do state we need both abilities in the end.

However by all means I don't suggest we make this easy to achieve, the best example I can give is the conflict between the Quarrians and Geth in the Mass Effect series. To end the conflict between the Quarrians and Geth require a set up of multipule pre-requisites that are from each game, Building loyalty with both Tali'zorah our Quarrian team mate and Legion our Geth team mate, ensureing both live across the games to the third one, saving influential characters to support us, allowing the Geth to evolve into true independent beings and having a high enough influance ourselves to talk them both down and to cosider peace an open option.

By all means on a first run of the games not everyone could get that ending which is what made it so satisfiying to get if you could and I feel that could work between Orpheus and the Emperor if given the chance. As previously stated it should not be an easy thing to achieve it should incorperate what dialouge choices you made previously, how much trust you have built up with the Emperor to entertain the option, a high DC charisma check and a slew of other choices to allow players the ability to attempt it, but I feel that it should be an option to make in the end.

Now I don't expect this to end up in any up and coming patches or hotfixes, but I would like the Idea to be thought about at least by both the Devs and the other fourm members to see if this does have any ground to be in the game. If anyone has anything to say or add-on to this post feel free as I'd love to see what everyone else has to say about this idea.

I agree, I think this is a choice that feels really forced.

The thing is, Emps is a big gas-lighter and manipulator constantly wanting to hold all cards and to do it his why, but it begs the question **WHY** did Emperor not just assimilate Orpheus before, it feels it would have been the best solution for him since the start.

When you tell him we should free Oprheus, Emperor just goes "You still don't trust me?" ... I mean, why don't you trust me?? Let me and my party convince Orpheus, and we all join together for the netherbrain.

If we really need conflict between Orpheus and Emperor, then save that until after the brain is dead, and allow us to end with having to pick between them.

I really want to have an ending where I help the Githyankis without having to surrender in to being and illithid.

My guess is that this was a possible ending once, but when they removed the consequence for using tadpoles, they also removed this.

I avoided all tadpoles the whole game, so why do I need to end up as Illithid if I want to avoid a whole species genocide and enslavement?
