I have Wyll multi-classed lvl2 fighter/lvl 5 wizard. I just leveled wizard to level 5 now and looked at my inventory to see what level 3 spells scrolls I didn't have to choose what to learn at the level up window. I only had 4 missing: Vampiric Touch, Sleet Storm, Hypnotic Pattern, and Counterspell. I had the other 23 as scrolls.

So I chose 2 that I didn't have, and then proceeded to learn the rest via scrolls. The problem I ran into was that 8 of the 23 level 3 spell scrolls are indicating that my wizard level is too low to learn them. The level 3 spells which are saying my level is too low to learn are as follows:

- Conjure Minor Elemental
- Stoneskin
- Wall of Fire
- Confusion
- Greater Invisibility
- Phantasmal Killer
- Polymorph
- Dimension Door

All of the above spells were available to learn at the level up window (along with the 15 lvl3 spells I did learn via scrolls). So what gives? Is this a bug, or a 5E rule I'm unfamiliar with?

None of those are level 3 spells. They're all level 4. Thus, your level 5 wizard is too low to learn them (level 5 wizards can learn up to level 3 spells).

If they were actually available to learn at the level up window(?), then that's likely due to multiclassing. A level 7 single-classed caster can learn level 4 spells, so maybe BG3 was allowing you to learn (but not be able to cast) those spells. I'd guess it's a bug, but it may be intended idk.

Thank you that makes sense. It was a bug... I had a previous bug leading up to this bug which might have compounded the issue. I walked into the Rosymorn Monastery and Wyll and Karlach got enough XP to go to level 7. However, both characters did not have the level up icon on their portrait, but their character sheet showed level 6 but the XP of a level 7 (i.e. current: 96, needed: 8904). There was nothing I could do manually to level them up. After a few re-loads I got them with the level up option and those spells were on the learning list for Wyll. Now on the same reload, they are gone. I find P2 quite buggy/strange so far. Appreciated the reply, TY
