Larian Studios Forums Baldur's Gate III Baldur's Gate III - Suggestions & Feedback Face customization - hopeless?

I've tried to gather all the facts in this thread because most of them elsewhere are scattered or outdated.

First, for all we know, there is an interview of some Larian employee who states they are against face-sliders as players cannot use them and Larian know better. Outrageous statements that should have never seen the light but nevertheless they demonstrate us the real position of the developer. There was nothing about custom face parts provided as presets, but as we already know -they are not in the game either.

There is no point to mention people who were disappointed by such decision, however, let's see what Larian fanboys supporters claimed at that time (and later):

1. Face sliders are not important, Larian will provide us with plenty of preset options.
2. Larian should focus elsewhere, modders will add sliders themselves.
3. Larian should focus elsewhere, modders will add more presets to everyone's liking.
4. Face sliders are harmful because face animations would be off.

So, after 3 years of early access and 1 month after release, what do we have?

1. Only several ugly preset options are provided by Larian themselves. Some races have better options, even if limited in amount, human faces are unbearable and unrepresentative.
2. Adding something that was not in the game is not a trivial task. I cannot remember sliders added to a game that never had them from the start by any mod.
3. I've done browsing nexus today. Only several mods, each of them adds only several heads, even less for humans and even less for male humans (I found less on the whole Nexus than Larian provides). So, after 3 years I still cannot create a character that would represent what I imagine even from afar.
4. Main character DOESN'T SPEAK. So he/she has only limited amount of animations. And those are ugly and unnatural, looks like my character has some genetical dysfunctions when he tries to "react" to something. I am not sure if Larian tried to be funny or they just failed miserably.

All in all, the worst scenario predicted by all people asking for proper customization was implemented 200%. Everything that we were worried about happened, and even worse (I didn't expect such awful animations in 2023 - especially when the animations of literally every other character in the game look great!).

That's odd. I don't know their full mod sortiment unfortunately, but I saw someone do a stream that just had tens of presets. Some 50 heads. Maybe no one's really done male humans yet, idk.

I prefer that the main character doesn't speak as a side note. I don't like them having a voice, either. It interferes with what they sound like in my head, and none of the female voices sound good for say, female half orcs. I'd expect a more gutteral sounding voice but nope, all we get is sissy stuff.
