I can´t find anything on this anywhere. Found this book https://imgur.com/a/I5RRSBx that mentions how Gortash and Orin stole the Crown of Karsus from Mephistopheles and on their way to escape happened upon a scheme devised by a "Blue Apex" to turn everyone into illithids controlled by an Elder Brain i.e the plot of BG3.

So it was never originally Gortash´s plan? Who is Blue Apex?

An alhoon is a sort of Mind Flayer lich. Gortash basically found someone else's plan and went, hey, that sounds cool. I don't think Blue Apex is supposed to be relevant to the plot themselves.
