but I can't seem to get the Gnomes away from the cave-in to plant whatever explosives I have. I happen to have enough smoke bombs on my party so I don't need to find the smoke barrel caches. They talk to me about it, and I reply with the right responses saying, yep got some bang right here,, and they just keep on working the chain gang. I finally blew up most of them in my last playthrough but this seems silly. Is there a cleaner way to do this or is this part bugged?
there are a lot of outcomes and the order you do things matters but yes @saffronsghost1 is correct, place a smoke bomb on the ground and everyone should run
