I’ve been playing the PC version, but when PS5 launched I wanted to play split screen co-op with my partner. For some reason it freezes every time someone switches players. We each control an NPC so whenever we swap to another character it’s a good 10 seconds where the whole thing locks up and you can’t do anything.

We are in Act II and have also started noticing that sometimes a character loses any function related to targeting. We won’t be able to move them, there won’t be a circular cursor to choose where to move them. Same goes for spells. These players become sitting ducks. You can’t move to engage in melee, you can’t target with a ranged weapon, you can’t target with a spell, nothing appears to work.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this on PS5.

To your point, yes Several people, including myself are experiencing this, ( usually after about 12 hours of play). It also freezes when using any spell that summons a creature ( find familiar, animal companion, etc.) the little I've read it may be due to a , " frame rate drop". There is a larger thread in tech. issues about this as well FYI.

Saving and loading solves the stuck issue during combat. The freezing issue apparently is happening to everybody and I'm a little scared if the game will be playable in the next acts since people say in Act 3 the performance gets worse (at least on PC)

PS5 local coop or local coop in general still needs a lot of work.

It's completely unplayable for me now. We counted 3-5 seconds between frames while casting Find Familiar the other night. So not 30 FPS, 1 FP 5 S!

It gets worse - we are over 50h in and out 'short' freeze actions, which are very frequent, are near 10s and our 'long' freezes on things like summoning and transformation spells are 30-40s+.

Clearly not in a reasonably playable state. We need to ask for a community manager to comment on this, it's a widespread, perhaps universal issue on ps5 split screen coop.

They don't care. It's been radio silence from them. They know 90% of their player base play single player and not couch co-op so they likely deprioritized this. The lack of split screen merging also makes the gaming experience horrendous.

I agree communication is bad and they could improve A LOT in this regard, but I wouldn't go into such a negative length to say they don't care, as Swen specifically said he was looking forward to playing couch co-op with his wife. I'm honestly hoping they invest more in the communications department in the future so they aren't so overwhelmed.

Something that has seemed to work for me - I disabled the tutorial tooltips from the options menu and now I’m noticing very minimal lag when switching characters. Still lags when performing summons but it’s MUCH better. Worth trying for anyone experiencing performance issues.

Good to know, I'll try it today, thanks! Another thing that worked in PS5 is completely disconnecting the console from the internet and restart it. The switch-character freeze was decreased from 4-5 seconds to 2.

The funny thing is that terrible unpolished stuff like that would be a huge red flag, but we love Larian games so much that we power through it and hope for the best. If nothing happens tomorrow with the new patch, I don't know how much longer I can tolerate the frustration. I still trust them though.

Don't know about anyone else but the game has become pretty much unplayable for us. Less than 30 min on the game today and it crashed twice (disconnected from Internet and tooltips off as per suggestions in this thread).

Having paid a lot of money for this game, I'm starting to feel like I've been scammed. Beyond ridiculous to be having such issues when they charge a fortune. Its a great game but these issues are really frustrating.

Not a single response from their support team either and I've been contacting them about this issue for over a week.

Loved Divinity and love that Larian actually pushes out patches fairly quickly, but if this co-op thing is not fixed in the patch tomorrow, my wife and I decided we are just going to start our own separate games.
There is no reason for this, especially considering Divinity and BG3 are basically the same exact game. Why take out what worked perfectly in your game 5 years ago?

In the same boat, I've been playing on PC since release, and split screen has gradually gotten worse as patches and hot "fixes" have been rolled out.

I've even restarted the campaign a few times to see if it was area specific, it's not.

What I’ve seen after patch 6 for PS 5 is that when I’m playing with my wife (couch potato mode?) her character is now getting stuck when she inadvertently looks at anything that can be broken or attacked.

Also, from the outset, whichever character she has following her does not belong to her went we resume playing. I have to dismiss said character (NPC), then she has to return to camp to ‘collect’ that NPC again. Pain in the rear, and time consuming.

Since the Hotfix, when we have eavesdropping turned on in split screen, player 2 loses control of the camera after the conversation.
