I know there is a huge segment of the fanbase that wants there to be no DLC, and a a lot of uncertainty at Larian about making DLC. The question is still up in the air... but I wanted to plead the case in favor of DLC. In particular I wanted to lay out how I think this DLC could be... distributed.
first and foremost, the unrealized content of this game is absolutely vast. And a lot of fans have expressed some (I think unfounded) resentment toward the unrealized content. I think taht DLC is a perfectly good way to reclaim a lot of the unrealized content into a usable form. Make no mistake though, I understand there will be instances where re-using unrealized content will take more work to re-implement than it took to create in the first place. But I also think that this can serve as a way to get some of the ideas you guys wanted to put into the game in the first place back into it.
DLC 1 - Divine Soul Pack
A DLC pack that includes expanded religious options for players, players with the acolyte background for example would be able to chose a god, paladins would be able to chose between oath-based and god-based powers. A lot of reactivity can be poached from cleric and paladin to make these things happen. Additional divine-based subclasses such as celestial warlock, and divine soul sorcerer could be added... as well as Aasimar.
DLC 2 - Avernus Expansion
Now this is going to be a lot.
This DLC I think should introduce the following things... An avernus section to the game (as found in the unrealized content)... That is encountered first on the route to Baldur's Gate from the Moonrise Towers region, your method of getting there and the main antagonists of this DLC would be the seemingly abandoned Hag plot thread. Avernus would be re-visitable throughout act 3.
This DLC would introduce firearms, artificer, and warforged... a new concept introduced in the module "Descent into avernus" was the diesel punk post apocalyptic tech of avernus, and is shown even in this game to an extent with Karlach and the hellish ships at the beginning of the game. So using this DLC as an excuse to get into the technological side of the universe is fun... and although warforged would be extra planar like Githyanki, they would still have fun reactivity in this area of the game that involves this technology.
As well its placement in the timeline of being between Moonrise and Baldurs Gate, this DLC could be used to flesh out Mol's storyline that a lot of people felt was unfairly abandoned.
Also, as hell is an afterlife... why not re-introduce some classic deceased characters as guest stars in the DLC? Coran could be absolutely fun (not implying he is damned to hell, but I imagine someone like him... gets around in the afterlife).
At any rate, combining the unrealized Hag and Avernus content into one DLC with story content seems like a fun move.
DLC 3 - Monstrous Options
Goblins as a playable race, werewolves as a playable class... Maybe Helia as a goblin werewolf origin character and companion. Various monsterous races from across the lore such as hobgoblin and other such things... I think this would be cool.
DLC 4 - Expanded City
Massively expanded content for the city of Baldur's Gate itself. A lot of the unrealized content is this part of the game.
-----
There is my proposal... a small pack, a major story pack, a small pack, a major story pack
And I think this would be all people need for this game. 2 Major DLC and a couple minor is pretty on par with games of this quality.
