The title says it all. I really enjoyed Act 1. I put 50 hours into that alone. Then comes the shadowlands. Really cool looking map. However this shadowcurse is just too much to be fun. It's not explained in game very well before you get their. So for players like myself who had no clue you need to invest into hording torches, or making sure everyone can cast light spells, it's just not very fun. The fact torches replace your weapons without an easy swap option during combat is the reason I only use characters that can see in the dark. It would make the game for explorer mode where you're basically just playing to enjoy the story, and being able to enjoy exploring the map more user friendly if there was an option in setting to disable the curse, that or remove it for explorer mode, and keep it for normal and harder modes. If this mechanic had been mentioned in the games description page on Steam I wouldn't have bought it, however I am beyond the threshold to get a refund now.

There literally is an easy swap option during combat; There's a slot right above your melee weapon, that's where a torch goes.
Sure, the button to swap between them is stealthy, but it's there.

If you free the pixie, she will give you a blessing that protects you from the Shadow Curse.

Look, I don’t want to be mean, but Halsin, Nere, Minthara, and anyone acquainted with the Shadowcursed lands will tell you it’s not a good place to be. You don’t have to use torches, just have a light source. There’s a weapon in the Temple of Lathander that gets you one, or you can use spells.

My advice is to rendezvous with the Harpers ASAP and get ready for a fight. When you are ready to fight, speak to the Cleric on the top floor of Last Lighy to get a blessing that protects you from the lesser Shadowcurse. Keep the cleric safe at all costs. Then ambush the Drider to get a pixie for greater protection.

There's like a half dozen ways to go through it, including a few PERMANENT buffs that don't even require you to hold on a light source.
Try to be a bit more resourceful.

Party control in Baldur's Gate 3 is a complete mess that begs to be addressed. SAY NO TO THE TOILET CHAIN

I'm sorry, but no. Just no. Perhaps you could make a mod for it or someone else can do it...

Does the curse actually do anything? I thought it was a complete wiff after so much buildup.

A single torch was enough to begin with, and crit path for a bit, and you will unlock permanent buff.

Yes, it does something at least in areas where the curse is stronger as I found out the hard way wink

Ah, I have been a good boy, and I did what mama Jaheira told me to do, before moving on grin. That’s good to know. Shadow curse being a nonissue have been one of my key disappointments with act2. shadowheartsshh

Due to a bug, the moonlantern I was supposed to get turned into a broken moonlantern. Thankfully, the concentrated shadowlands aren't an absolute death to sprint through, or that would have been the end of that.
