For the Absolute, it should be obvious, as only Ulitharids become Elder Brains. Maybe not for the emperor, but at least some of the player character (or Orpheus) should be so.

FYI: ulitharid 6 tentacles, normal mind flayers only 4.

It's only a cosmetic difference and one largely inconsequential for most of the game, but still.
