So I was checking out Draconic Ancestry, and it states that any damage type from a spell that matches your ancestry should deal additional damage equal to your spellcasting modifier (charisma).
This works as intended with most spells however Phantasmal Force is a highly unique case in where the damage dealt is set to the previous damage type.
This of course means that unless it is hard coded, Phantasmal Force does not work with Draconic Ancestry (Tested) which is rather disappointing.
The thing is, I can't even find anything about if this SHOULD work in 5e setting, seeing as Phantasmal Force is such a niche spell to begin with. Couldn't find anything about it.
If it had worked, I was actually debating using it, as if you deal cold damage with it on a wet target, suddenly the damage spikes. I think this was simply an oversight on the fact that there's a spell that literally changes its damage type to match "last hit" so Draconic Ancestry was missed.
As a side note something that IS interesting, the cold damage is correctly being registered by "winter's clutches" to apply "Encrusted with Frost" and "Snowburst Ring" creates an ice patch everytime it proc's on the target, "Heart of Ice" add's the additional 1 cold damage. The massive odd part here though, I had cast the spell with wyll and hit them with gale, who actually had all these equipped. Meaning the bonus effects were coming from someone that wasn't the caster of phantasmal force, but a cold caster that had previously hit them, and had the bonus effects of his gear echoed from phantasmal force. It means based on how it's currently coded either the player or another party member can echo all the bonus effects of their gear until phantasmal force expires or they are hit with a different damage type.
Something I also noted was that saving throws were checking for Phantasmal Force rather than "Phantasmal Force: Cold", despite the combat log stating the prior condition was lost and the new cold one was gained. So it could be that the reason Draconic Ancestry isn't applying is because of this if it WAS supposed to work?
I am writing this in suggestions and feedback because I honestly don't know if its a bug or not, but would very much appreciate if it WAS possible to tweak this to work considering the few "use" cases Phantasmal Force actually has. And there aren't many if any cold spells that use concentration. The idea of being able to boost the base damage of this spell and double it with cold (or lightning) sounded rather cool.
