Today they are pre-defined races and classes, why not include the main characters of your friends, who are playng BG3? It will be very nice to recruit a frient char, dont you think?
Theres already a lot of discussions on this topic and most people agree that fully customizable hirelings would be a lot better, but Larian still choose to not include that.
I heard they added some wardrobe thing to store 3 additional characters for multiplay games, but I don't think its available in single player.
