Well. Done with bg3 and want to try something else. It seems like WOTR is highly regarded in the community. So Im wondering if the game is worth the time? (it's Metacritic score is not very high.) Personally, I don't mind games that have complex systems or high learning curve. But my concern right now is that some say that in higher difficulties, the combat in WOTR is pretty much predetermined by your build and pre-battle buffing? That doesn't sound very fun or strategic to me...

Pathfinder uses a system that is much more similar to DnD 3.0, which some people vastly prefer but I, personally, always felt like it became ridiculous especially at higher levels. Moreover, WoTR in particular FOCUSES on those higher levels - exactly the range in which I think the system most begins to fall apart. The "build flexibility" in the game allows you to make absurdly munchkin builds that the game balance takes into account, so monsters have INSANELY overinflated stats to balance that out. And there is no concentration mechanic, so yes, you can stack infinite buffs on yourself pre-battle and the balance takes that into account to.

I REALLY don't like the combat mechanics in WOTR. That being said some people love them. And I do think it does a better job with storytelling than BG3.

We actually have a HUGE thread roughly themed around Pathfinder WotR vs BG3 at https://forums.larian.com/ubbthread...s=Pathfinder&Search=true#Post888529.

It’s long and rambling, and dates back to way before release, so you might actually find it hard to get an answer to the very reasonable question asked here buried amongst everything else and asking again is fair enough. But I’d still suggest this new discussion is taken to that old thread.

I’ll lock this one to try to cut down on duplication.
