To begin with, I've never played Baldur's Gate 1&2 OR Neverwinter, I also doubt if I ever played any D&D related tabletop game.

However, I am aware that D&D has huge amount of races from different "planes" or "realms".

So, why Half-Orcs? Why to add them in the game and not Orcs? Are Orcs extinct or what? I am pretty sure I've never met one during my 2 play-throughs of the BG3, despite there are many other NPC-only races like cambions, aasimars, kobolds, hobgoblins etc.

It's curious to see other races like cambions and hobgoblins make appearances as NPCs, yet no Orcs in sight; their absence is indeed noticeable. Half-Orcs have a legacy in the Baldur's Gate series and offer a nuanced blend of human and orcish cultures, making them more adaptable to various game settings like Baldur's Gate city. That said, I want to see more monstrous races from sources like Volo's Guide to Monsters. Additionally, more diverse player voice options would be welcome; it's a bit jarring to have every character, even a Half-Orc, sound like an English gentleman.

And why are there only half-orcs? Or half-elves, for that matter? No quarter orcs or three quarter elves. Are all racial mixtures infertile?
And why is the other half always human? And why do half-dwarves not exist?
