It’s been many many years since I posted on a forum like this so bear with me, I’m in a quandary ..

I think I’m nearly at the end of act 1/the first bit, but it was bothering me that I hadn’t managed to locate either Halsin or Karlach as they were quests set near the beginning and I had no idea of their significance then, but now realise they’re both potential companions and ones I would want.

I went into BG3 pretty innocent and just bumbled about trying to get it right. Did play the original games when they came out. The problem with Karlach is seemingly that the tieflings in emerald grove died. Or also the druids? It’s so long ago now I can’t quite remember how that all went down. She just tells me to F off and there doesn’t seem to be a way around it. I got astarion to play a song she quite liked but this didn’t sway her. As far as I can remember re the slaughtered tieflings, I didn’t actually get into a fight with them or kill them, in fact I intended to side with them, but the goblins overran the place (maybe when I killed the racist Druid?) and I am not sure for sure what decision of mine caused that to happen. And I didn’t get to Karlach til very late in the day because I had not realised you could jump over the gap in the broken bridge, as I was terribly naive and just getting to grips with things.

Re Halsin, I cleared out most of the goblin camp very incrementally ages ago, I had to look up where you were supposed to find him in the worg pens, he definitely wasn’t there, the internet said he’d be at emerald grove but he doesn’t seem to be there, though I could have another look. He seems important and I’m not sure what to do. Even if he’s not important I’d want him in my game.

My dilemma is that if I have really naffed it up with one or both of these characters, I’d almost go back and start again, but that idea makes my heart sink a bit. Some of those goblin battles were tedious. I’ve loved the game and don’t want to break my immersion in it. I need to give it a bit of space and think about it. But thought I’d see if anyone had any tips or advice. Or if there’s some magic patch or mod that will solve this by magic.

Halsin will be in the emerald grove if you kill the goblin leaders and THEN go to the worg pens. If you sided with Minthara to do the raid on the druid grove, all the NPCs will be dead and you cannot complete that quest, you have to do everything a different way.

If you kill the tieflings and druids, or they dies in the raid, Karlach will not join you, and if she's with you at the time it happens, she leaves. If you stole the Idol of Silvanus for that one quest that you get (can't remember circumstances, I think one of the kids asks you to?) the druids kill the tieflings.

It sounds like you made an evil decision somewhere, somehow.

Sounds like you killed Kagha. That makes the Druids hostile to the Tieflings and you, and
makes it almost impossible to stop the Goblin invasion. If you stop the Goblins, either in
combat at the Grove or by killing the 3 leaders, you can rescue Halsin in the Goblin Camp.
Since the Grove was wiped, I'm not sure if he shows up in Act 2 or is just dead. Karlach is
out of reach because the Tieflings were all killed and she blames you for not saving them.
Pretty sure the only way to get her is going back to before you killed Kagha and making
other choices.

You don't have to kill anyone, just taking the statue is enough

Luke Skywalker: I don't, I don't believe it.
Yoda: That is why you failed.
