Aloha
Ok... I've got all the three keys to the first act Battlefields. I beat the first act, but haven't started act two yet so I could finish the battlefields. I beat the first two dungeon battlefields and finished all the merchants quests. I cleared out the third dungeon but am confused at the bottom of it... it's empty. There's no boss, no items.. just a bunch of nice-looking backgrounds. No levers or anything.. is the bottom of the third dungeon supposed to be like this? If so, it's quite different from the first two. I looked for more merchants to see if I missed any quests, but I can't find anymore! There's those 4 merchants in one spot, and then the other one north of them, to make a total of 5 merchants.. and I did all their quests. And yet the bottom of the third dungeon is empty ... help

Maynard, how many BF quests are open (blue) in your log book? You get a maximum of 5 quests per act. If you solved all 5 => then it's ok.
BF dungeons are generated in a random way: 1. several bosses/items in one dungeon 2. none 3. one
and welcome to the forum, Maynard Kiya

Yeah, they're all gone. Didn't know they could be empty! Thanks for the quick reply, Kiya, as well as the greeting to the forums

Is there a problem if one happens across three bosses all down in the small lvl 3 room at the same time? Wouldn't that be a pretty tough battle or are you saying that they might all be in the same dungeon but never in the same room at the same time--I hope?
Thanks.

So if you complete a battlefield since it is randomly generated can you turn around and start over and do it again and rack up mad experience?

I've fought 2 bosses in the same room, and I've heard others talk about facing 3 bosses in the same room, so as Kiya said earlier the dungeons are random. I just wish that the dungeons that had no bosses on the 3rd level would at least have some treasures or something down there. It's just so anticlimactic when you make it to the bottom level of the dungeon, only to find an empty level. IMHO

Sorry, no mad experience for you. The Battlefields are randomly generated once per each Act. As you clear each dungeon in the same Act, they will remain empty until you proceed to the next Act which will then have new dungeons once again filled with more beasties. I'm sorry if that confused you, but I'm chaotic and I tend to ramble on at times.

Well, in my last lvl 3 I at least found a quest item I was looking for but nothing else.

As you just found out, that's the other possibility that can happen when you make it to level 3 of a dungeon; no bosses, but any number of quest items just lying around on the ground. It's not as much fun to just pick up an quest item or two without laying waste to a boss or two, wouldn't you agree?

I'm now trying to determine if, since I am ready to start Act II and didn't have much melee fighting trouble getting to this point if it is worthwhile finishing up the Act I BF or just moving on to Act II? The BF dungeons and quests are boring. They are okay if you need to strengthen your characaters but if that doesn't seem to be an issue is there any reason now for me to start and finish dungeons 2 and 3? I've only completed 1 or the 4 quests I got and I have talked to all 5 BF merchants? I wonder where that fifth quest is and if any great purpose is served spending the time to finish all of them? I wonder if there is any way of opening those locked chests in the last Citadel level?

If you don't have any trouble, you really shouldn't bother with them. IMHO they're just tiresome, boring hack 'n slash levels. I finished the whole game without visiting the BF (well, without fighting there, I did buy stuff from the merchants there) and I did just fine. The fifth quest by the way you can get from Keith (he's always hiding someplace). I believe in act I there is a path leading north of the village, he's at the end of the path.

Chuck, each solved BF quest is supposed to give 5184 XP pts. I don't know, if this is much for you.

I'll keep a save game for the end of Act I just in case. The fifth quest by the way you can get from Keith (he's always hiding someplace). I believe in act I there is a path leading north of the village, he's at the end of the path. The problem is that all five merchants gave me their quests and I completed one of them. That should leave 4 open in the Quest book but there are only 3. However, since I'm going to skip the BF anyway...

I agree that the battlefields are boring and yes they are not necessary. Since this is my 1st game through, I'm exploring everywhere, but I will skip the dungeon crawls next game, though. However, if you want lots of gold and exp, hack your way through them for your own leisure.
As for the chests, I killed all the humans in the citadel in search of more keys, but I never found any more keys. Alas, I left a few chests locked and unopened.

I always figured that the cleaning imp might have had keys to the locked chests but I could never get her to talk. [No, I couldn't kill her and as far as I'm concerned she does not have the keys.] I killed the remaining humans there too and none of 'em had a key. I'm leaving the chests and Citadel soon--as soon as I finish my BF quests for Act I and blow up the Forge. In Act II I won't take on 5 quests all at once if I can help it. I'm dying to see how tough these BF bosses really are.
Question: Can you leave items stored in the barrels and on the ground in the Act I BF and find them later when you return in Act II through IV/V OR is all the BF stuff wiped clean OR is it a new local with different merchants?
Thanks.

The cleaning Imp had keys? I didn't even think about killing her, but she didn't care when I killed the guards. If she had the missing keys, that would make sense in a way. Someone had to clean out...err..clean those chests.
I've been disappointed with the BF bosses, so don't get your hopes up. I kill most of them with 1-2 hits. Yawn. They're not that special is what I'm trying to say, but it also depends on your current level as well.
If you want the items that you were storing in the BF, you need to take them to the next act with you or you will lose them. When I first get to the BF of a new act, I position a barrel in the center of the main merchants area, and store items in there while I explore that current act. Before going to the next act, I sell as much as I can in the BF, and I sometimes end up with encumbered characters going into the next act. If the merchants don't have enough gold, simply leave and return to the battlefield a few times to update their inventories. Either bring the items with you to the next act, sell them, or lose them. It's your choice.
I'm going out for while now. Later Chuck
