So now that we know about Loviatar's blessing, it's honestly hard to pass up on a free passive buff on any given playthrough.

Right now, I'm currently playing Shadowheart with my persistent companions of Lae' Zel, Astarion and Wyll.

Is it common/acceptable for a practitioner of one faith to receive or approve the blessing of another from the same general alignment?

With only a surface-knowledge of FR lore, I can't see Lae' 'Zel approving while she still worships Vlaakith. Astarion almost seems like fit in a sick sort of "Daddy issues" kind of way. But he also probably won't be in a position to take too much damage very often.

And it's just straight out of character for Wyll as far as I can tell.

The "political" landscape of the Gods in lore is a bit of a minefield. This is what made Shadowheart such a tough sell from a lore perspective. The worship of Shar is not well received by most of the people of the realms. She is considered by most to be an "evil" God. That is why most Paladins and Priests would not journey with her once her "secret" was known. As you get into the game imagine a Worshiper of Bhall or Cyric wanting to work with you, would you trust them or want favors from their Gods? Expecially if the God you seek favor from directly opposes them.

Lae' Zel to me would be a little more pragmatic, her God is also her queen and using another God to kill the Mind Flayers would be "acceptable". If she was a Paladin of her faith or a Cleric that would be a different story possibly, but she is a straight warrior.

Astarion is not likely all that "spiritual" and could care less. Plus Vampires kind of like the Dark hehe

Wyll is where things can become a mess. While he has sought the aid of a Devil to gain power, he does not "worship" that Devil and wants to use the power he has for good. So you have basically a Good guy accepting favor from a God he would consider Evil.

The gods of the realms have alliances and enemies just like any kind of powerful faction would. For example, Loviatar is allied with Bane, possibly neutral with Shar and Bhaal, but opposed to Ilmater, Eldath and Lliira.

So a worshiper of Bane might gladly take a boon from Loviatar, but a worshiper of those opposed gods would not, because it would be accepting a boon from a god directly opposed to them. If you were a cleric of those gods and you accepted a boon from Loviatar, your clerical powers might be reduced or even withdrawn (at least, in tabletop, not in BG3).

1st you can get a blessing without knowing which God is behind it and yes this does happen to shadow heart

2nd imo a blessing from another god is fine because it useful, unless that other god (small g) happens to be directly apposed to your god, which then becomes a 'did you consent' issue... yes this also happens to shadow heart

The game does allow you to rp disgust at being blessed by that 'moon bitch' and that's good game design imo

Luke Skywalker: I don't, I don't believe it.
Yoda: That is why you failed.
