I found out too late you can get this act 1 with Command spell. I felt quite clever avoiding another fight. I was instead foolish to not get the sword. I even had an ogre summon left to fight with.

Heat Metal has a higher chance of success (25%). Otherwise you will be doing a LOT of save scumming since Command only has a 4% chance.

Command can be helped with portent. But noted about heat metal.

you can also just have a fighter disarm him

be aware having this sword in act 1 causes story issues because the game assumes you got it from your queen for doing her evil bidding ... you will also want to kill the patrol because they bug out if you don't [joining any fight from miles away]

it is a nice looking sword
