Loving this game, but it really feels like it's far too easy to romance, or ninjamance I should say, certain characters. It's like Mass Effect 1 all over again. I tend to choose the kind, compassionate dialogue options, and that leads to characters like Gale and Wyll to fall in love with my character--even when I go out of my way NOT to choose what I think are flirty options, etc. Somehow, both characters are under the impression that my character has been flirting or something, when that's just not the case. I really wish there were VERY CLEAR "this will lead to romance" choices. Breaking their hearts when I'm only going for a specific character physically pains me, and it's no exaggeration. It seriously makes me want to put the game down, because I feel terrible rejecting them. I just want to make sure they're not under that impression at all so I don't HAVE to break their hearts!

The dialogue options seem to boil down to flirt, flirt but quieter, and crush their souls and their feelings. Why? Please fix this somehow. I just want to be friends, not lovers...

(I'm very new here and have no idea how this forum works. If I did something wrong when posting, sorry.)

I agree, went through the same with Wyll.

Playing as a female Drow I never ever flirted with him, merely asked him one night if he would dance with me so I could lift his spirits a bit since he was hiding away from the party. Ended up feeling absolutely terrible in ACT 2 when he actually started dancing and then put the most depressingly disappointed face ever in the history of mankind, because apparently asking him to dance is all it takes to trigger the romance fully.

Literally just one line. And since I was romancing both Lae'zel and Karlach, once I broke up with Lae'zel in ACT 2 his love scene triggered the very next night to cockblock me from devoting myself fully to Karlach. Honestly even Witcher 3's prostitutes required more work to get in bed with than Wyll grin

I will say, as male playing a kind-hearted female character, it was kind of eye-opening to see just how cringe it is when male characters (particularly Gale) mistake kindness for romantic interest. Same thing when Halsin was trying to mack on my character and engineer poly stuff when it's pretty clear she is in a relationship already.

A brief glimpse of what women have to deal with on a daily basis, I'd wager. :-\

The CORE of the problem is we do not have any kind of FRIENDSHIP dialogues, like in BG2.

It just reminded me of the bowl of goat's milk that old Winthrop used to put outside his door every evening for the dust demons. He said the dust demons could never resist goat's milk, and that they would always drink themselves into a stupor and then be too tired to enter his room..

You're going to have to marry Wyll now or kill everyone in the grove. Those are the options. Choose.

YES. Just put in parenthesis at the end of a dialog option "(begins romance)" like in Dragon Age. I don't like having to turn everyone down just because I thought I was choosing the friend dialog option and accidentally led them on
