So after the last patch today, every time me or my buddy talks to a trader to sell or buy stuff, it disables the save option, when we save or quicksave it keeps giving us the failed save message, we have confirmed it happens only with traders, no matter what other npc you talk to, it does not affect the save at all.
This is quite game breaking as well as the rampaging strange ox (Slime) in act 2 as soon as you enter the Last Light inn after the cut scene where you're stopped at the entrance, which immediately kills Dammon as the first target, and we can't have that happening, but this bug has already been mentioned in another post as i saw so i didn't make this the main issue in this post.

Mine is doing this too!
I tested it a few times to make sure it was only after talking to the trader. Sure enough, that's what it was.

Rule 1 of troubleshooting with mods is to try a new game without the mods. Common sense should tell you that if the game has problems after it updates but the mods haven't updated then there is a good chance that one or more of the mods may be the problem. I never download anything the moment it is released. With BG3 I will wait until the mods have updated before I update the game. About five of the mods I use have already updated. I am only running the party mod and not Bags etc and have this issue. Which party mod? There are three that I know of. Always give the name of a mod because mods are not all the same. Just because the 'party' mod is not Bags, Bags, Bags it does not mean that it is not the cause of your problem.

I have the legendary equipment mod, tutorial chest, and legendary equipment tutorial chest enabled. That may be the cause, thank you posting this. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't save, turns out I have the vendor issue too

Common sense should tell you that if the game has problems after it updates but the mods haven't updated then there is a good chance that one or more of the mods may be the problem. My reply was to let the others know that it is a mod issue. I am waiting for updates personally. Should have said more for my post to be clearer. I meant that it isn't just the before mentioned mod causing issues. Outside of this game I run a modded server for another game and I understand that with updates, everyone needs to be patient for the modders to catch up, they are doing these on their personal time. I will and have had my private server offline for a week for mods to update to avoid corrupting previous saves. I came here to see if it may be an update issue to find lots of people posting without mentioning, mods, if any, are being ran. So far, the posts where the save issue is occurring is mod related. My husband is still in his first play through and is not running any mods. He is having zero issues, thus mod related. I am running party limit be gone. So until the author updates, I am watching the voice actors on High Rollers playing their one shot while I wait.

I have found a fix for this "Issue" : just talk to another trader and you can save like usual. At least that's what I have found in the Druid Grove, first I talked to the halfling trader, can't save, talked to Dammon, saves working again. Also, I am running mods and such... Hope this works for you guys.
Edit: so yeah, the issue in the Druid Grove is the Halfling trader.

Confirmed going to a second vendor fixed the save issue for me thanks.

Edit: so yeah, the issue in the Druid Grove is the Halfling trader. This is interesting. I was having this issue with him too. On the mod page, there are others who are having issues in other acts. So I wonder how this is occurring and with what type of model. If everyone can check what merchant they were having issues with? It may be traced to an NPC model that either the mod authors can fix or traced to something that Larian may have overlook with certain models?

Edit: so yeah, the issue in the Druid Grove is the Halfling trader. This, unfortunately, did not work for me. If I load the game and talk to no vendors I can save but if I buy/sell anything then it breaks. Talking to subsequent vendors has no effect on the broken save capability.

Can confirm that this even happens in Act 3, with Exxvikyap too. Tried disabling all mods, one at a time and it still seems to persist.

So I did some more testing based on other comments I found online, and it seems like this bug can be circumvented by performing a second trading exchange with a merchant. After the first trade, saving is broken. After completing a second trade, saving becomes possible again. It seems like subsequent trades don't break the saving system again either. It seems like as long as the trading menu gets opened a 2nd time, that's all that is needed to fix the bug. No actual trades required, just gotta open the trade menu.
From looking at the patch notes it looks like they tried to make your save data hold onto you preference for trade vs barter. I'm guessing that's where this bug is coming from! Seems like when you perform your 1st trade after the latest patch, this bug happens.
TL;DR: Open the trading menu a 2nd time to fix the bug with saving

TL;DR: Open the trading menu a 2nd time to fix the bug with saving I gave this a go and it does not seem to work for me. I'm in Act 3 and trying to trade with a rat in the Flaming Fist dungeon cells (inside the Lower City). I tried to go back into the rat's trade menu a second time, exit, and quick save and it didn't work. So I went to a different vendor, entered the trade menu, exited, and it does the same thing showing "Save failed". So this seems to be a hit or miss fix. Hopefully it helps others though. Can also confirm too though that this is not just an Act 1 Druid Grove issue. It's definitely game wide. I should clarify that I use mods but not the "Bags, bags, bags" one a lot of people seem to use. I have seen posts on reddit of people saying they use no mods at all and are encountering the bug. So it seems to be a fair mix of people having this issue.

One work around - use the trade function in the bottom LEFT, the problem seems to be linked to the trade dialogue. I can trade and save ONLY if I use the bottom left trade icon.
ALSO - I just was able to use the dialogue trade after I used the what I mentioned above and save...so interesting...

My save capability still breaks after interacting with a vendor. I am thinking it is likely my "Party Limit Be Gone" mod but I have not gone through my mod list one at a time to troubleshoot. Unless the problem persists I will just wait for an update.

Happening to me too and I'm only running two cosmetic mods. None of the workarounds seem to work (barter icon, talking to a second trader). All the traders at Last Light break my ability to save. Steam forum user apparently had some success turning off cloud saves but that didn't work for me.

I had to click on quartermaster menu more than once, but I got it to work for now. I do think whatever this bug is, 3Jackdaws is right.
