I would love a setting so that automatic cutscenes ALWAYS default to the MC. I'm tired of finishing a fight and it ends up being a random party member. So, I have to either A: re-do the fight and hope I get it to land on my character or B: deal with it just being a party member who gets the dialogue. Which means potentially losing out on rep for the party member I'm speaking as.

As a side note. I wish druid forms wouldn't break scripted cutscenes. It seems to toggle off just fine when you manually talk to your companions but inconsistent with other cutscenes and can occasionally skip them entirely. Particularly if it's your MC as a moon druid.

I do wanna say I appreciate npcs no longer freaking out about me being in a wildshape so that's an improvement thank you for that. Edit: seems this didn't make it in this patch.

I do hate that certain cutscenes trigger on whoever the closest party member is and not the controlled character (usually the MC for people), but I'm pretty sure there's a setting in the options that can auto select your MC after finishing a fight/exiting turn-based mode, have you tried checking that to see what your settings are and if that would help? If its not a settings issue for you then I agree with you on having Larian force the MC to get the convo as the default.

I've only had this issue with non-combat related cutscenes (Like meeting the 2 brothers arguing with the hag on the road and Shadowheart triggering the cutscene because she walked too close to them while I was collecting plants).

Sometimes it may as well be beneficial, on the other hand - e.g. playing as paladin MC in final fight with act1 hag you just can't chose power without consequences... so when another party member converses instead, you can benefit.
For most purposes I consider all companions as equals - they share the same problem, so when you decide to play dumb/mean MC and let the usual talking to e.g. Wyll, I do not see why MC should be autoselected to talk after fight. Maybe binding it to party position might be an option.

I have that option on. It does what it says (selects the main character after combat). However, that doesn’t help with who gets dialogue. If a companion is closer, that companion gets the dialogue regardless of who is selected.

This happened to me after the Ansur battle. It selected Lae'zel to speak to the NPC instead of my main character, so I felt compelled to answer as LZ would instead of the options my MC would have gone with. >:|

And yes, I have the option enabled to always select my avatar after combat concludes, but it doesn't help with things like this.

Yeah, the menu option does not work or help prevent this. I hope they fix it one day.

I believe it's using the last character that acted rather than the "closest" - it always seems to select the character that got the "killing blow" for me.

I'm guessing the trigger to start the post-fight conversion fires before the one to update the selected character.
