Well probably not Baldur's Gate, but the people behind Honor Among Thieves I think still want to do some DnD project. It did okay; unfortunately Mario came along and stomped it in the box office.
All of them are 100% amazing, lovely, great, inspiring, fun, etc...
I'm in love with all of them now.
I hate to be the one to break it to you but they are actors acting. They would project the same shiny, happy people image if it was a toilet paper advert.
I think it did not do well because it is what is claims to be a DnD movie. The show had the same campy feel that an actual table top session so often has. For the DnD fans out there this was amazing and made the movie a ton of fun to watch. For those that have never played DnD the show might have felt a bit silly.
As for the live action project, I HOPE if they plan to do a series they do it for the Forgotten Realms, or at LEAST the Sword Coast. A Baldurs Gate movie would be awesome but for a series it would be to limiting.
Honestly, idk about the origin voice actor’s live action experience, but I think most of them (with some exceptions) look enough like their characters to reprise their roles in live action.
Alternatively if it’s the Bhaalspawn saga, they could just cast anyone. Not sure if a head-shaven Mercer is up to the task of playing a live action Minsc tho

Nothing against the skills of the voice actors, but voice acting does not often translate to a film/TV event. I have been doing professional voice work for many years and can tell you I am great behind a mic but in front of a camera not so much

You're probably right, but I heard that the voice actor for General (Admiral?) Thrawn is killing it in the live action role in Star Wars (I'm not watching it though because I have 0 interest in anything made by Disney). I hope if it is a BG3 series that the game cast are at least given consideration in the audition process. Idk how it works I have never worked in the media industry.

+1 Did anyone see what Netflix did with the Witcher? No thank you.
Witcher? Bah, have you seen Cowboy Bebop live action remake
Joking aside, I am not convinced adapting BG3 is a good idea. It is not a game with strong narrative drive - it is player choice and system driven, and once you take that out, I think you will find that what remains isn’t particularly compelling. So doing a project like that would be pretty much making something out of scratch just casting actors because they stared in a video game together. I am not sure how strong of a pitch it is.

I think The Last of Us worked because the game is pretty much written like a movie/TV show anyway. But yeah; adapting a big sprawling RPG full of choice and characters is far less feasible. The best thing I think is just to tell new stories set in that world, and you can maybe have one or two familiar faces pop up now and then.
I thought Honor Among Thieves was great fun and would be up for more films or spin off TV series with those characters, whoever commissions them. As long as the creators are good, then I’m not sure platform matters. I have Netflix, Prime and Disney+ and think all have delivered a mix of dross and good stuff, with most content somewhere in the middle.
BG3 live action I’m not so keen on the idea of, just because I think BG3 should be the story of our PCs’ and don’t like the idea of a specific version of the story that might end up feeling more real than our own. Though frankly if it were a good and fun series, I’m sure I’d get over it. And I’ve nothing against a series set in or near Baldur’s Gate at a different time or that only intersects with our BG3 adventure, in which some BG3 NPCs pop up.
And I agree the voice cast of BG3 is fab and deserve all the opportunities. I’m looking forward to watching the shared vid when I get a moment.
"You may call it 'nonsense' if you like, but I've heard nonsense, compared with which that would be as sensible as a dictionary!"
A DnD live action - yeah, would be great. I loved Honour among Thieves. But please not BG3. They just end up making Tav/Durge a fixed character and I hate that idea. I would love to see the voice actors in a film or series but I don't want it to be the events of BG3.
"We are all stories in the end. Just make it a good one."
I wouldn't give the streamers another dime until they compensate their actors and writers properly. Cancelling shows after 2 season so they don't have to pay their grips and such is nonsense. HBO is in my mind still among the worst offenders there for starting such trends. I'll never quite be able to forgive them for pulling the rug out from under Carnivale hehe. I mean they had the Kurgan in that one! And then just said, neah? Ridiculous! Bearing in mind that I'm subscribed to practically every one of those streamers now and paying twice what I ever did for cable lol.
(sidebar) Talks are breaking down from what I read, pretty sure SAG-AFTRA is going to vote on whether to authorize a strike for their VA and Mocap actors tomorrow right? So the timing could be tough on this wish.
If they do strike I think our Actors should show up on the picket lines in full make-up and costume! Just to remind us all who we should be backing in this potentially Epic showdown that might crack off any day now. The alternative is probably no actors, but actor-bots, and that would blow.
All that said, a feature length animation thing could be very enticing. I thought those little skits they did coming out of EA were fun. Or speaking of Netflix, the new Voltron that did "Monsters & Mana." That episode was clutch! I agree that Tav would present some issues. I don't really want to see a Tav. Unless maybe it's Durge in which case it might work, since he has that default look already and the story there is a bit more fleshed out hehe
