Romance SOS

My partner and I are playing on ps5, she decided to try and romance Astarion.

We have been chugging away at the game slowly and just enjoying our time allowing for the story to unfold while we goof around in the game. We have not completed all the side quests through the acts, but we have been following our companions quests, along with the main story.

My partners main goal is to achieve "the final scene" with astarion.

We just entered act 3, baldurs gate, and were walking around, and ended up in the circus.

This is when my partner decided to try and talk to astarion, about potentially moving their romance further.
He said something along the lines of "what we have is purely transgressional, I gave you one night, you give me protection."

From what we are reading if you miss a cutscene in act two then your romance option is done with astarion....

She is convinced that she cannot romance astarion from this point forward and that the 70hours we spent is wasted.

I will also throw out there I deleted the quick saves to create less confusion when loading, and just left one save file.

Can someone please confirm or deny this romancing astarion scenario, and or how ee can fix it.

Any comments would be nice, wether confirming the romance is done or if it can be saved.

She is pretty upset, and does not want to play the game any longer knowing we spent so much time, for it to be ruined by not achieving one minor cut scene or conversation.

Thank you!

We did discuss the scars with Raphael
We did not talk to the drow. In act 2

I wish there was a progression bar, or checklist or something, because I am trying to romance shadowheart , and I'm not 100% focusing on her relationship with astarion.
I am however having a lot not fun playing this game with her, and it truly is a bummer that, we most likely will not play this together anymore because 70 hours was wasted, over one missed dialog with a character that is not even in the main cast (from what I know).

I know I sound "heated," or upset, and I'm sorry. It's more desperate, trying to find any way to save this scenario.

Thank you again.

I' m a bit baffled, that a game romance is all, that keeps her playing, since BG3 has so much to offer.
I'm not an Astarion expert tbh, but I think, it actually helps the romance, if you talk to the drow ( the drow lady in act 2 Moonrise Tower to be specific), when he is in the party, and let him decide. It's about building trust and he realises, that he is not someones toy anymore.
I don't know, if there is another chance, when doing his quest in act 3, maybe some of the many Astarion fans around can help. With Astarion everything is about making his own decision and not being forced to do anything against his will.

I've tried convincing her that the game is truly more than just romancing one character, but that's been her main goal the whole game.
Which is what it is. I just enjoy playing the game with her and am really bummed I'm losing my gaming partner.

It's not a critism, I was just wondering. I mean, the romances are a nice layer, but I would enjoy that game immensly withouit them too. But hopefully, you can fix it. I don't know, if a ll is lost for now - since you haven't done Astarions quest in act 3, I guess? If you can convince her, try doing Astarions main quest and
don't let him ascend.
. Maybe that will help.
He will meet some characters around town, before being able doing that quest, let him decide, how to approach them.

What's the approval level at this point?

I want to add, you should absolutely go to the Gur camp with Astarion in your group. That is important for his story.

Your partner is correct. Apparently she missed a rather important Astarion scene in Act II, and there is now no chance to repair the relationship with him. Unfortunately I gather that you don't have any Act II saves to retry from.

I think we are going to start a new campaign, and leave the save file alone for now, but I also don't think all is lost.

Thank you for the encouragement.

For what it's worth, there seem to be three triggers which get (a version of) that scene:

1. Talking to the drow in Moonrise
2. Completing Astarion's Act II personal quest
3. Having very high approval with him by some point in Act II (this is sort of a failsafe since it's very possible for the first two not to happen)

Unfortunately these can be messed up by bugs or by not long resting enough.

If you don't know, where the drow is:

She is in a room to the left if facing the throne

Good luck.

I actually try to romance Astarion with my Durge (Dark Urge) this playthrough, since the writer of Astarion did write the Durge too and gave them extra scenes - it is very easy as Durge to get a lot of approval with Astarion very soon. But of course it is a very dark background.

I was wondering if you also know the answer to something I've been thinking about. smile

I'm trying to trigger a particular Astarion scene in this route, but I don't know why it's not happening already.

I mean the apology scene, so I'm avoiding talking to the drow for now. I have exceptional approval (full 100, have had since Act 1), have talked to Raphael in Act 2, but not finished that quest, and entered the Moonrise Tower. I was in the impression that the approval and the location would be enough to trigger that scene, but nothing. Might you know what I'm missing?

After entering the tower, I have two other companions whose romance scene triggers in the first and second long rest (Gale and Wyll), but I've told both of them I'm not interested. Naturally I wonder if either of those affect this situation. If I keep resting more nothing happens.

Since the last patch, the triggers for that scene have apparently changed a little - no idea if this is on purpose or a bug. You're right that before the patch it could be triggered simply by entering Moonrise. Apparently, as you've discovered, that no longer works. I recommend continuing to avoid you-know-who - maybe avoiding Moonrise altogether - and instead finishing Astarion's personal quest. That used to trigger the full scene. If it doesn't, keep working on other things in the area which don't trigger the final showdown, and long rest a lot. If you get desperate and there's nothing left to do, then you'll probably just have to go get the "Moonrise version" to make sure the romance stays on track.

Thanks! I'll reload an earlier save and poke around. I'll comment here if I'm able to trigger it. smile

Thank you, Tarlonniel, it worked! I went back to an earlier save, finished Astarion's personal quest, entered the Moonrise Tower, and rested - and got the scene.
