Still working my way through Act1 (I think is it obvious when you end it?) And I've failed 2 lore checks and don't seem to be able to revive the item. There's the blueprints for the master weapon in the forge (blighted village) and the Lanthander(sp?) Blood in the Creche. I think I've found the items, but because I failed the initial Lore checks I'm not getting the option to use them. Examine doesn't give any new insights.

Do these get re-rolled at new character level (would make sense) or is there another trigger? Or are they lost for good?

So (I think) you're talking about two different weapons. Apologies, but it's a little hard to parse out what you're saying. Neither weapon *requires* a lore check to get or use.

*

Blighted Village:

you find the blueprints. a check is made to see if you know where to find a particular ingredient... sussur bark. if you failed the check, you don't know where to look for the sussur bark. however, you can still find the bark. tip: it's in the underdark on the sussur tree near the hook horrors.

then you take that sussur bark back to the blighted village forge. you use the forge there and add the sussur bark. next, you add in what type of weapon you want to enchant. it has to be a dagger, sickle, or greatsword. when the process is finished then you have a Sussur dagger, or sickle, or greatsword, depending.

no "lore" check is required to do this.

*

Blood of Lathander:

this is an item in the githyanki creche in the monastery.

you probably found some blood encased in amber. all missing the lore check here does is let you know that this is probably a decoy. it's not the real blood of lathander.

to find the real blood of lathander, which is a weapon, you have to turn the statues in that area in particular directions. one statue will get stuck while turning. you can put oil on it to make it turn or you can hit it to make it keep turning. if you choose to hit it, use a pretty strong character to get past its toughness.

that will cause a secret door wall to open. go through that and proceed. at the end of the path, once you get past the traps, you will find the blood of lathander weapon.

There are two ways to get the blood weapon but actions have consequences

Luke Skywalker: I don't, I don't believe it.
Yoda: That is why you failed.

Lore checks just give you additional information or inconsequential new dialogue options. If you want to get that stuff you have to do the quests.

There is no way to re-roll a check on a specific character. You can bring NPCs and hirelings from camp to attempt the check if you fail.

My husband and I quick-save frequently and reload if all four of us fail a check. Sometimes it takes several attempts but I'm a stickler about it. :P

Thanks JandK. That's helpful. seems like the lore checks (one religion the other nature) aren't as consequential as I thought. Still ought to be a way to get another character to try, or other opportunities though.

Anytime youre moving and see "failed whatever" try to stop and save before all 4 of your party members get close enough to fail it too.

If you have a lore check on an item you can put in your inventory, you can often simply get a different companion in your group and let them look at the item to get another chance.
