Hiya, everyone. I just started my first game the other day, and I must have immediately gone the wrong way. Trying to avoid an explore-and-reload habit as much as possible, so: does this look recoverable to you?

What I've done: (spoilers pro forma, but really this is all first hour content.)

Do the things on the snail airship and crash it. Pick up Cliché McElfname the unconscious beach cleric and add her to the group. Find a dead end with a locked door. Go back and through the wreck to kill some brain monsters. Find footprints on the other side and follow them. Talk to some grave robbers in a ruined temple and scare them away. Step on an unstable floor tile and crash through into a room below. Be attacked by a much larger group.

So, as far as I can tell: I can't run away from this fight (can't reverse-fall back through the ceiling). I can't talk them out of killing us. And I can't win a 2-versus-6 or 7 fight, even now that I've discovered the convenient oil barrel which some of them tend to cluster around.

Very broadly, what is this? Did I stumble into something that's meant for a larger or higher-level party? Or should this be a solvable one, and I'm missing something crucial about the game?

It's just an unfortunate turn of events - you can do that section at low levels, 2-3 I'd suggest, but usually better to arrive on your own terms ;-) I'd just reload and talk your way in (or sneak in - there are alternate routes and you don't need to pick the lock on main door near beach, or even talk to the people topside. Picking lock is an option with high dex character and thieves tools). If you arrived in a bad way, out of resources and overrun, then unless you're lucky you'll have to redo it. But as long as you are level 2 or so, should be doable (don't go in guns blazing, use some stealth to set up first).

At least one if not two more companions.

I'd suggest restarting - it's early enough - (or going back to an earlier save) and having a little poke around in the hills above the crash site - you don't have to go far - and you should pick up one or two more people to help you out. 2vs 6 at that level is never going to end well without a lot of very lucky rolls unfortunately.

Unfortunately, having already crashed into the place accompanied by several hundred kilos of stone ceiling, stealth is kinda off the table smile Somebody immediately opens the door and rolls initiative.

Thanks for the opinions & advice. I guess I'll rewind and see what/whom I can find.

As a extra possibility - Last time I checked, it was entirely possible to climb back out of the hole as well; it's just a matter of fighting against the user-unfriendly UI and the clunky control system to get your character to stand on the right space to have them climb up.

Without spoiling anything, you want to do this area as soon as possible, but definitely with a full party. So you just happened to be a bit too curious and adventerous hehe that happens... Old CRPG rule: Save often hehe

Oh, interesting. In the name of pure pointless player stubbornness, I'll give that one a go first.

I got caught there too. You don't need to fall into it though - if you shoot arrows at the crane you can drop the weight onto the lid, and then walk inside at your pleasure (or as above come in through other means once you're harder).

This... you have missed a couple companions. The "footprints" you mention in your post lead you to an unstable waypoint stone. Explore it. A party of 4 should be able to easily clear the ruins. Good luck!

the fight is easy, a single level 1 character can win that with any fire attack

Luke Skywalker: I don't, I don't believe it.
Yoda: That is why you failed.
