The instructions book says to left click the item with a charm quality on the equipment plate and the charm plate will open allowing you to add charms. This is not working for me. Anyone else have any tips? Thanks.

First you need the 'add charm' skill, you can find it under the warior skills. For each point you invest in this skill, u can add one charm. ( when your 'add charm' skill is level 3, then u can on highest put 3 charms in an item.)

Second you need stuff which has place for putting charms in them. Some items have place for 2 charms, while others have place for five. Only in those stuff you can add charms.

For example, if you find a belt where u can put 3 charms in. This would mean you can maximum put in 3 charms. If ur add charm skill is only level 2, that means you can put only 2 charms in the belt. If ur skill is still level 2, and u find a pair of shoes with only 1 place to put a charm in, then you can only put one charm in it.

Do so! This is a "must have" skill, and it's worth maxing to level 5!
And it's not one you can learn from books.

The placement of charms is irreversible!
So for items you intend to keep until the end - save them to place only silver and gold charms

The name of the skill you need is Enchant Weapon, though it works on any equipment type.

I don't suppose anyone knows any teachers for this skill? I've had an eye open for it for at least the last two acts (I just got spilled into Act 4 against my will tonight, so I'm playing it, because I honestly don't want to go back and do Act 3 *again*), both in-game and in the battlefield, and I can't find it. I've got a half-dozen solid gold dead useful charms in my inventory, too...

Unlike in Divine Divinity, you do not need to learn a skill in Beyond Divinity to charm equipment. The (always open) charm slot graphic in BD is the same as the closed charm slot graphic in DD, so many people (myself included) who played the first game start off assuming a skill will be needed in BD.
