In Act 2...
When you go see Isobel at Last light inn, Fist Marcus who is infected attackes you. But I find it weird everyone calls him a traitor? He's a victim.
I get the rank/file Flaming Fist grunt calls him a traitor they don't understand the parasite. So they just see a Man who switched sides to the absolut's cause. But Jaheira and the hapers, say they are keeping up to date with the parasites and partially know what is going on. Even Jaheira , is sceptical you can maintain control.
So why aren't the Harpers and higher up Flaming fist say " Poor, Marcus... I didn't deserve that... Or the Absolute will pay for corruptiong our own!"
Unless there is a diary or Scroll that shows Marcus surendered willingly and chose to get a tadpol, the man is a poor victim!
(FYI, just my 2 cents, and I am loving the game so far!!!)

I don’t think it’s right to completely ignore that many people voluntarily join the absolute. Yes with the parasite they ultimately wouldn’t be able to resist if they tried to but that doesn’t mean they can’t willingly join and then willingly do what they’re told without resisting. People aren’t usually tadpoled unless they prove their usefulness first; at least in terms of the actual cult members that receive it.

You've got a point. Jaheira hasn't been shy waving around her tadpole in a jar. Surely the harpers would know about tadpoling and I presume they briefed the Flaming Fist. Who have eyes and brains anyway.
Maybe it's just war-think. Calling them traitors helps them kill first, question later. You don't want disadvantage to your initiative.

Even so, it'll be better to take him in alive than dead, so you can torture him (Hold Person + Heat Metal) for answers, also good to have a healer nearby to keep NPCs alive long enough, it's what I would do in D&D.

Honestly when I first met Marcus, I thought he was Isobel's BF, The cutscene kind of came off as a lover's quarrel at least to me, my Tav was like "do I need to leave the room or something?"

I get what you mean, I also thought there was chemestry bettween them. Almost tought Isobel would ask us to avenge who corrupted her BF's. Looking back at the scene if he hadn't quickly started with his Spiel about the abosolute she could have shouted "No Marcus, No means no!" and it still would have worked.

He implies that he got what he wanted from the Absolute, which were his wings.
Speaking of, what's up with his wings? How did he get wings?
Anyway, I got the impression that he voluntarily joined the Absolute, but it's certainly a good point that he may be a victim as opposed to a traitor.

I, too, think, he joined voluntarily. Plus it sounded like he was always a spy, so I get, that the harpers are mad.

I was curious about the wings thing as well, At first tought that he might be a oath of Vengence Paladin that got wings at a high enough level and that he was just a corrupted paladin like Minthara was and the shabyness of his wings was explained by his corruption or a Assimar ( And they tortured and damaged his wings). At the time, I tought I saw a video that showed a paladin (oath of Vengence) with Wings in a Larian promo video. Now I can't seem to find it so I have doubts. If he betrayed the Fist for wings, I think I would have asked for the nicest looking wing arround. I feels more like he was experimented on (since my innitial idea is probably wrong). Without a scroll or a diary stating he's unhappy and wants to defect. I feels to me more, He was catptured , given a parasite to be a spy, maybe via the parasite they saw he dreampt of having wings, gave to him his desire but twisted it .

Maybe had crush on Isobel and was jealous of Dame Alyin, like becoming an artificial Scourge Aasimar was a way to achieve both his goals, that or Kethric Thorm told him that Isobel likes Aasimars, why else would he defect, it's not like the Absolute had attractive women (except for maybe Orin and Minthara.) He could been tired from a dead end job, maybe the Absolute promised him a promotion. Brainwashed against his will, probably didn't really defect, but was thinking about doing it eventually. Maybe he just wanted wings to fly with style. Just trying to figure out his motivations.

Balthazar's notes tell us that Marcus' wings came from an unfortunate another being and are a reward.
Isobel does talk about how secretive she had to be at Last Light because she's a Thorm. The Thorms in Reithwyn are known to some as Kethric's elite. Tarnished by a broad brush.
Yeah, there's some familiarity between Isobel and Marcus. Maybe confidant, maybe go nowhere romance.
Certainly his new wings are a surprise.
[Edit]I doubt Isobel mentioned Aylin much, that'd reveal she's that Thorm daughter from long ago.
