Wizards can learn nearly every regular looking scroll you find except befriend animals and aid.
If you don't already have it scribed then chances are you can once you have the level it needs.
Keep a dedicated container full of scrolls ready to scribe is how I run.

they are colour coded and that would be great if Larian hadn't forgot to tell us what the colours mean

to answer your question = no there isn't a way to tell from the trade list which spells you can learn... and yes that is DUM

goto the wiki and make a list of wizard spells by level, then print those out onto an A4 paper and cross off the ones you already have as you play

Are you sure they're color coded and the colors mean anything? They're definitely NOT based on school.

Trying to find a pattern...
Green = Necrotic, Acid, Poison - but NO because Ray of Enfeeblement (necrotic) scroll is pink!
Blue = Ice & Electric - but NO because Sleet Storm is red!
Light Blue = Utility? (Feather Fall, Dimension Door, Fly, Jump, Speak with Dead) but NO, Darkvision is black
Orange = Fire - but NO because Cloud of Daggers and Spike Growth aren't fire and flaming sphere's scroll is gold!
Gold = Buffs (Mage Armor, Bless) - but NO because Guiding Bolt, Grease, and Moonbeam are gold too!)
Teal = Healing & restoration
Purple = Thunder (all 2 of them)
Pink = ??? Charms maybe? (nope, Fog Cloud is not a charm)
Black = Spells with the word Dark in their name. Again, all 2 of them.

So maybe there was some general guidance but they were allowed to ultimately do whatever for scrolls? Because there's exceptions to every group I try to create.

But yes to answer the OP question, Wizards can learn almost every spell from a scroll.

I wonder, if your WIZARD speaks to the merchant and you right-click the scroll in the merchant's inventory, does it indicate whether or not the spell is already known? Once you have the spell in YOUR inventory, the wizard can right click and if the "learn spell" option is available, that means you don't already know it and can learn it. I'm not sure if there's an indicator while the scroll is still in the merchant's inventory.

yes i'm sure they are colour coded and yes it means something

i assume its a level so scrolls below your current level are say green and the red ones are too high for you yet but like i said Larian forgot to include data so your guess is valid

I don't think so, as the scroll colors don't change as you level up.

as fare as i know the colors have nothing to do with it.. all it its showing is how rare they are..

as for right clicking it does not work and i can't see if i can learn it or not..

hope they will get a system in to the game so i can see if i can learn the spell or not.. ^^

Would be nice if Larian would show this, yes.

Would also be nice if Wizards could scribe scrolls themselves.

Even better if Bards, Cleric, Druids and Sorcerers could do this as well.

So that there is a logical reason for why scrolls exist in the first place, and even more so that you can have extra spells prepared, and control over which extra spells exactly are prepared.

I also kind of want them to get rid of Cantrip scrolls, but whatever. I cant think of any situation in which you would ever want to cast a Cantrip from a scroll.

the logical reason for scrolls is simple... a Wizard makes them to sell or keep

then ANYONE can cast that spell from the scroll so your Bard can cast magic missile or your cleric can cast fireball, because they have a scroll
