I have the BG3 ModManger .... but I have really a stupid question now: HOW MANY Mods can I install in BG3?
And is there a difference between BG3-mod-manager-installing, Vortex-mod-installing and manual install? I mean: When it comes to the amount of mods.
And is there a difference with the Mods in the Overwride folder?
I remember somebody told me something about 80 mods ... I'm not sure anymore where I read this, sorry. I talk here about .pak mods. I don't thing loose files (who goes to the Data folder) caunt "as mods".
There is a post in this section from a guy who installed 241 mods in one go and wondered why his game wouldn't start. I run about a tenth of that number and I didn't install them all in one go. I used to run between 200 and 300 mods with Skyrim but again I didn't install them all in one go.
As for an actual hard number, I don't know. I've not seen any numbers bandied about and I would say that at this time there aren't that many regularly updated mods around so any potential limit is still hypothetical. There's too many unknowns at this point e.g. what, if anything, Larian will do vis-a-vis modding tools. If there is a demand and a modding community appears then any Larian limit may be circumvented by modders.
I have 80 + about 15 "loose" . You can install theoretically an indefinite amount , as long as you understand what they edit/change. Lower in the list will overright , those higher in the list if they edit the same entry/files. Understanding the interaction is key to successfully mod without issues. Alot of modders tend to release compatibility patches with other popular mods (5e spells, etc) , if they do not, you either have to choose one or the other, or create a patch yourself. Try to look for mods that are updated quite frequently.
This is really interesting what you write. Thanks I think this question is very interesting in general, also to understand how the mods works in BG3.
A gaming buddy of mine wrote yesterday she have about 80 / 90 mods and is fine with it. She can't say how many could be installed .... she thinks: "Until your computer still are fine with it."
(I have right now about 58 + 12 (overwride folder) = 70 mods. And just about 4 or 5 loose file-mods. I was just curious about this question.)
Difference between Vortex, BG3 MM, and manual easiest answer is organization. Installing manually you have to organize the mods yourself, I do this personally for sims 4 if I get my building itch, sims 4 load order is alphabetically and I ran into a problem where it looked like Vortex did not do this correctly.
Vortex also when I was digging around looked like it kept three copies of one mod on your computer (this one I could be wrong and its just two but I'm pretty sure they install a backup) one is the installed and the second is backup, for the third is the one the app uses to install your mod.
I have no experience with BG3 MM but here are two vids
I actually learned about modding back when skyrim first was out, Gophers channel had vids that broke down the ins and outs of the whole process. He'll have premade playlists on his channel for modding other games but it might help understand additional info about modding totally. First is for vortex, second is Gophers main page for his youtube channel.
