I hope for DD2 that Larian is planning on bringing back night and day effects like it had for DD. I missed having that in BD. Having night and day adds a level of reality to games, and allows players to engross themselves more in the environment. It would also be nice if it was easier to sneak around at night and pickpocket and stuff like that. Also having merchants close shop at night would make for more reality as well, it was kind of weird in DD that they didn't. Plus send the merchants to the local bars at night, just to see a different side of them.

No, No, please no!

I just played through Sacred which had day and night cycles, and all it meant was that half the playing time was spent with lousy graphics and poor visibility. In that case it was probably done to suit their vampiress character whose abilities change at nightfall and daybreak.

Perhaps there is a way to do night scenes that don't mean that the game looks dull and things are hard to find for half the game, but it's not my preference.

In general I'd rather keep things going than have to cope with 'realism' factors like collecting and eating food, day/night cycles, etc. Real life has plenty of routine boring stuff that I'd rather see left out of the gaming world.

Perhaps if games must have day/night cycles then we could get a short bit of evening action followed by an automatic (and instant) sleep time that renews your stats. More believable than just ploughing on in the dark as some games do.

What about torches and lanterns, making lots of spooky shadow effects?

I'm all for it so long as they make a transition. BOOM! It's day. BOOM! It's night. It was like God coming into the room and turning on the light.

Since Divinity 2 will have a full 3d engine, it would be just a matter of changing the light and of course, gradual change is possible.
Rest assured, Kris: as Hand-E-Food said, portable lightsources should lighten things a bit .
Don't forget that you can always adjust the game's gamma. It might look ugly but it is an option if you can't orientate in the dark.

Missed day changes in ?

The game spends most times in dungeons anyway didn't really miss it.

on topic: it should be summernights.. they're really short and the days are loooong, so not a lot of darkness, and the darkness shouldn't be too dark, that would be nice... also some snow, rain, fog, ...

Well, it was announced a while ago when Beyond Divinity was still Riftrunner.
Those bits of info are taken from the interviews:

From the The Avault interview
Quote
Tell us something about Divinity II to whet our appetites!
It'll be big - VERY big. It has a very good 3D engine. It's multiplayer. And it contains a lot of cool features.

From GameGuru Mania
Quote
GGMania: You said that Riftrunner is based on the same engine as Divine Divinity and is also set in the same gaming universe. Will there be a Divinity 2?
Swen Vincke: Yes. There's a clear desire for us to make a Divinity 2 in full 3D with brilliant dynamics but the same (or better) gameplay.

Some more information about Divinity 2:

From Gaming Chart
Quote
The development of Divine 2 is already underway. Are many of the same people playing a role in the development of both Divine 2 and Riftrunner? If so, how will the developers successfully preserve the distinct qualities of each title during the development phase? For Larian Studios, what are some of the difficulties or advantages of hosting the development of these two RPG titles at the same time?

Some of the underlying systems can and will be reused for both projects, for example the dialog and RPG statistics systems. Riftrunner enables us to test these systems on an existing engine while the Divinity 2 engine gets constructed. Another good example of a system which can be plugged into both engines is the battlefields technology which will generate random maps and story for both games.

What extended role, if any, will online multiplayer have in future games set in the Divine Divinity universe? Or, will the focus continue to be on providing a compelling single-player experience?

We will continue on putting in a good single player story line, we feel that is very important , but in the future (for Divinity 2) we will also start including multiplayer features.

I agree with Viper, long days and short nights would be good. Also weather would be great. It would be nice to have it rain randomly. Again adds to realism, and I would take realism over not as good graphics for part of the game any day.

True, Black & White could be set to check and match your weather on the internet.

I seriously think we don't need to complicate things.
