Hello. I think the ironhand gnome quest line may have been bugged in my savestate due to one of the hotfixes, but I'm not actually sure if the bug came from updating the game or not (wish there was a way to revert to previous game update and test this on console, but alas).

Bug began for me in Act 2 but I thought it was working as intended as I was able to complete the "Rescue Wulbren" quest. I rescued Wulbren and all of the tieflings, having them fight on the docks and killed all the paladin guards.

Couldn't talk to Wulbren at Last Light Inn, but Barcus came over and started the cutscene where Wulbren was a big jerk to him. Quest completed. I try to talk to Wulbren after and he just says "Later!" or "Not now" with white floating text (not actual animated speech). This fit his snobbiness so I thought he intentionally wouldn't talk to me.

Now in act 3. All the ironhand gnomes in the hideout urge me to talk to Wulbren, including Barcus. But when I try to talk to him I get "Not now" floating text still. I tried stealing in front of him to "unfreeze" him. All the gnomes go hostile temporarily and I cast invisibility. When the gnomes go back to friendly/interactable, Wulbren sprints *all the way out of the map* and does not return.

I tried entering turn based mode and talking to him while he was running and he still says "Not now."

Wow that’s awful. I played that scene yesterday or the day before, and it worked normally.

I think this may be due to the way I solved Act 2 quest to Rescue Wulbren but not sure how.

My steps:

*Talked to Wulbren in the jail who asks for a blunt instrument to help him break out
*Tossed him an enchanted warhammer (not his hammer)
*Attacked the warden and guards, killed them, then hit the lever to open the jail cell doors
*Helped prisoners fight outside so they all survived. Followed them to a dock area but there was no boat actually there. The NPCs just ran to the dock area, then disappeared and my journal updated with "the tieflings and Wulbren safely made it to the Last Light Inn"


So possibly something with giving him a hammer but then not having him break the wall (opened doors instead). Or the fact that it wasn't his hammer. Or the fact that the boat didn't appear on the map to me. But more likely something about the hammer since all the rescued tieflings did talk to me as normal afterwards.

Thanks! I submitted a report several days ago. Found a couple people on reddit that had this issue. Just wondering if anyone here worked around it.

I noticed if I steal the bomb on the table it updates the journal as if Wulbren gave it to me. I considered doing the foundry quest but didn't really want to do all that if Wulbren still didn't talk after doing it. Might work but maybe it won't trigger right, so I haven't spent time trying.

Just tested an old save (about 30 hours of play back, before rescuing Wulbren). Tried the approach where Wulbren hammers the wall down and I blew up the wall for the tieflings so they could all escape to the underground boat (not the outside docks as they used in my first playthrough).

Got a cutscene I'd never seen before where we all take the boat together, then everyone gets checked for mindflayer parasites by the Harpers. Wulbren does speak to me after this, which is new.

The bug may be triggered by not taking the boat with them and not getting the Harper cutscene.
