I don't know if anyone else is having this happen but I explicitly avoided showing jaheria the artifact but she some how knows about it. Some how she just brought it up out of nowhere. I also find it weird how I'm regarded to be the hero they need after just meeting them I feel it makes no sense at all. Is her knowing about the artifact public knowledge on this forum? It really breaks the immersion.

Larian never bothered to implement a story path for where you hide the artifact. So they just know.
The same way its location is not really tracked. I specifically left it with Shadowheart when she offered to give it to me, yet it was my character which presented it when asked.

But yet it's an option to hide it. I certainly hope this gets fixed. I made sure shadow heart was dead and took it from her when the ship crashed. It just felt weird to keep hiding it from everyone then all of a sudden jaheria just blurts it out like she knew about it the whole time. I also noticed when you make the choice to keep it hidden behind a charisma check in the video sequence with jaheria your toon will act like she is putting the artifact back into her pack.

Right, I didn't tell her about the artifact but she knew. It is immersion breaking. As well as the 'put it back in the pack' animation.

There are a few points along the story where it is assumed you act in a specific way (even when there is an option to do the opposite). Artifact and Jaheira is one of them.

The game seems to struggle to keep track of who has the artifact and whom you showed it to.

It really is a shame. I find it rather insane this game gets a lot of praise, but it's still broken. It's almost starting to feel like this game was meant for "Erotic Role Player" fan boy's.

My wife commented on this just last night.

The artifact is perhaps the weirdest indication of Larian's writing staff making things harder on themselves. Just... have it wash up on the beach and in the player's possession after the crash. Instead, they had to code like all these bizarre elements for edge cases, leading to bits like Jaheira where the game just assumes you have it.
