... yeesh, this is even correct ? I didnt expected that.
And this is definitely a HUGE advantage.
It's not as big a deal as you'd think. A half-orc Barbarian with Brutal Critical deals on average 14 additional dmg on a greatsword crit, while a greataxe deals 19,5. Without additional ways to boost base crit chance, we're looking at 9,75% crit chance with Reckless Attack. Or simplified, 1,365 dmg per attack for greatswords and 1,90125 for a greataxe. So roughly +1 dmg on avg per turn (2 attacks). But this is also not factoring in that greatswords have an avg dmg of +0,5 compared to greataxes in their base dmg, so it mostly just evens out. If we have Great Weapon Style (for example in a Fighter multiclass), greatswords tend to benefit a lot more because of its 2d6 (1/3 chance to reroll) instead of a 1d12 (1/6 chance to reroll).
This is of course assuming regular weapons. In BG3, I don't think there are any greataxes that are as strong as the greatswords available at the same time. The Hellfire Greataxe is pretty neat (+2, +1d6 fire dmg), but also only becomes available at the same time as the Sword of Chaos (+2, +1d4 necrotic dmg, 1d6 heal on hit), Giantslayer (+3, double strength mod to dmg, automatic advantage against large or larger creatures) and Silver Sword (+3, +1d6 psychic dmg for githyanki). All of which are better weapons than the best greataxes.
A half-orc barbarian will in theory deal more dmg with a greataxe, but in practice that is unlikely to happen in BG3. Maybe a dedicated crit build can do it, but then you're potentially looking at a worse build than something more consistent.
